REPORTS DIRECTLY TO: Fire Station Officer (FSO)

 

FUNCTIONS:

Responsible for the operational characteristics, services and activities of the fire and rescue service, to include; modern and complex principles and practices of fire training as instructed by the station officer, inspection and fire prevention duties covering main camps, remote sites, camera sites, Sharm MFO terminal, costal patrol unit and any other premises as required on the fire service managers instructions. Responsible for the safe operation, maintenance, and use of all operational fire-fighting and rescue equipment, including vehicles, rescue and breathing apparatus equipment and their relationship with fire prevention policies, rules and regulations. Supervises Egyptian National staff in training and performs regular competence-based evaluations of their progress and performance. Ability to: coordinate the work of lower level staff; interpret and explain fire and rescue service policies and procedures; brief MFO staff in fire safety awareness as required; prepare clear and concise reports as directed by station officer; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work;


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provides full performance level support and direction to the emergency response fire and rescue team covering the MFO operations.
  2. Schedules and coordinates all fire and safety inspections, prevention, suppression and training requirements for both structural and aircraft fire, crash and rescue in accordance with MFO policies and regulations.
  3. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, supervising all assigned fire-fighting operations in performing required activities in accordance with relevant NFPA, equivalent UK standards or Generally Accepted Industry and Professional Standards.
  4. Attends and supervises EN fire-fighters at all fires, accidents or other safety emergencies when on duty or when directed by the CFO or as requested by a subordinate Fire Officer or Crew Chief.
  5. Supervises the maintenance of operational and training records including but not limited to property inventories, personnel, call-outs, inspections, preventive maintenance, investigations and fire extinguisher records.
  6. Monitors the installation and maintenance of the computerized digital fire alarm receiving equipment including two-way radio communications equipment.
  7. Ensures that all MFO fire-fighting equipment is maintained in a high state of readiness. Prepares and submits routine reports as required by the MFO.
  8. Supervises the activities of Egyptian National fire-fighting personnel. Confers regularly with other Sub-Officers to ensure that equipment requirements, training methods, materials and activities are maintained to a level above the required standard wherever possible. Maintains and/or proposes revisions to the approved Fire Prevention, Safety Inspection and Fire-fighter Training Programs and MFO FSOPs (Force Standard Operating Procedures).
  9. Implements the Fire Prevention program and enforces MFO fire prevention and protection regulations and recommends corrective or remedial action through the chain of command based upon inspections or investigations.
  10. Supervises the development of leadership and professional skills of assigned EN fire-fighting personnel through appropriate training, instruction, practical drills, physical fitness training and team building exercises.
  11. Participates in Fire Safety training for MFO civilian and military personnel as required.
  12. Acts as the Fire Station Officer in his/her absence.
  13. May be required to perform in other duties when the MFO operational THREATCOM LEVEL changes. Perform emergency/stand-by duties as required. Perform other duties as required by the CSP.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

US High School/UK Secondary School graduate or military/fire service equivalent. Must have held at least Leading Fireman (civil) or NCO (military) rank.

Membership of a recognized professional Fire Prevention or Industrial Safety Organization is desirable. Minimum of five years` experience in local authority, civil aviation or military fire service with at least three years at Leading Fireman/NCO level. Should also have at least one year fire prevention experience and be familiar with NFPA and UK recognized safety and fire regulations.

Must hold a valid Home Country driver`s license and be able to obtain and maintain an appropriate MFO driving license as well as LGV driving license or equivalent.  All Driving requirements are for on and off camp driving conditions.

Must be physically capable of carrying out and supervising firefighting activities, covering hot fire training, breathing apparatus operation,.  Must also be capable of carrying or manipulating heavy or ungainly loads/equipment.  There is often a requirement to crawl, squat, climb, push, pull or work overhead in exposed area.

Must be computer literate in the MS Office Suite of programs.

Ability to operate Redkite software training programme desirable.

 

LANGUAGES:
A good command of both written and spoken English. Knowledge of Arabic and/or Spanish would be an advantage.
 

LENGTH OF CONTRACT
2 years with possibility of renewal. The initial contract includes a four-month probationary period.
