Organizational Setting

The objective of the Department of Nuclear Energy (NE) is to foster the efficient and safe use of nuclear power by supporting interested Member States in\: improving the performance of nuclear power plants, the nuclear fuel cycle, and the management of nuclear wastes; catalysing innovation in nuclear power and fuel cycle technologies; developing indigenous capabilities around the world for national energy planning; deploying new nuclear power plants; preserving and disseminating nuclear information and knowledge; and advancing science and industry through improved operation of research reactors.

The department has a dynamic, participative and interactive operating environment with inputs received from the Board of Governors, the General Conference, policy and decision-makers, and technical counterparts in Member States and the international development community.

The Division of Nuclear Power comprises the Nuclear Power Engineering Section, the Nuclear Power Technology Development Section, the Nuclear Infrastructure Development Section and the INPRO (International Project on Innovative Nuclear Reactors and Fuel Cycles) Section. The Division provides core engineering, technological, human resource development and management support to interested Member States in the field of nuclear power.

The Nuclear Power Engineering Section (NPES) assists interested Member States in the development of the safe and effective operation of nuclear power plants and in the expansion of existing nuclear programmes. It provides guidance and encourages information exchange on engineering aspects of design, construction, commissioning, operations, maintenance, decommissioning; management and management systems; human resource development and performance improvement; expansion planning and strategies; and stakeholder involvement.

Main Purpose

As a member of a team reporting to the Head of the Nuclear Power Engineering Section, and under the overall guidance of the Director of the Division of Nuclear Power, the Nuclear Engineer (Instrumentation and Control Systems) ensures a results-oriented programmatic response to Member States' priorities by organizing training programmes, workshops and technical meetings, and preparing state-of-the-art reports on instrumentation and control (I&C), and electrical engineering, I&C and electrical modernization projects, application of digital I&C systems, human factor engineering, ageing management of cable and electric components and electric grid stability in the context of nuclear power plant construction, commissioning, operation, maintenance and the transition to decommissioning.

Role

The Nuclear Engineer (Instrumentation and Control Systems) is\: (1) an expert in all aspects of engineering for instrumentation and control and electric systems of nuclear power plants; (2) a technical officer, arranging and conducting activities required for the successful and timely Member State support. This support may be delivered via a diverse collection of specific outputs including training workshops, the publication of technical documents, conferences and/or symposia linked to the field of engineering for instrumentation and control and electric systems of nuclear power plants under his/her responsibility and as defined in the IAEA programme; (3) a scientific secretary, planning and leading moderately complex Technical Meetings; and (4) a partnership builder, establishing, developing and maintaining an international network in instrumentation and control systems of nuclear power plant with international organizations and recognized experts.

Functions / Key Results Expected

• Coordinate, support, facilitate and implement the various meetings organized within the scope of engineering for I&C and electric systems of nuclear power plants.
• Prepare technical reports and guidelines on engineering for I&C and electric systems of nuclear power plants.
• Plan and implement activities in the area of engineering for I&C and electric systems of nuclear power plants in accordance with Member States' needs, including but not limited to I&C systems and electric systems of nuclear facilities, management support for operation leadership and engineering and compliance of Member States with the requirements and recommendations of the IAEA's guidance in these areas.
• Provide advice and technical assistance to Member States for specific projects in the field of engineering for instrumentation and control and electric systems of nuclear power plants, as required, and contribute to preparation of the IAEA's programme, financial plan, annual reports, etc.
• Convene consultancies, Technical Meetings or workshops and support coordinated research projects resulting in the development of technical publications.

Qualifications, Experience and Language skills

Master's Degree - Advanced university degree in the field of electrical or instrumentation and control engineering.

Minimum 7 years of working experience in nuclear power plant in engineering, and the operation of the plants instrumentation and control and electric systems.
Experience of working in a national/international nuclear organization or institute desirable.
Comprehensive experience in the coordination of international projects related to engineering for I&C and electric systems of nuclear power plants.
In-depth knowledge of and experience in the scientific/technical principles and developments relating to the field of engineering for instrumentation and control and electric systems of nuclear power plants.
Experience in technical writing in English for producing and reviewing documents related to engineering for an instrumentation and control and electric systems of nuclear power plants.

Excellent oral and written command of English. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.

Remuneration

The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $73516 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), a variable post adjustment which currently amounts to US $ 37052, dependency benefits, rental subsidy, education grant, relocation and repatriation expenses; 6 weeks' annual vacation, home leave, pension plan and health insurance
