Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 22 years old. Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in the country of assignment.

Description of task

Under the direct supervision of the Regional Development Coordination Officer for Africa, the UNV is responsible for the following duties:

  1. Perform a wide array of complex responsibilities in support of program activities, projects and programmes planning and monitoring, specialized communications, and special projects.
  2. Initiate and maintain contact with internal and external departments, units, and/or organizations to help coordinate program details, identify and resolve problems, and provide specialized program information.
  3. Assist in the provision of technical advisory services to the Office projects and programmes under implementation;
  4. Support collecting, research and analysis of information on various thematic issues to support coordination activities .
  5. Compile background materials and prepare draft reports, analytical briefs, information notes, and draft letters on various topics related to the Office’s activities.
  6. Identify and develop possible environmental project concepts, in partnership with relevant agencies and institutions, and assist with Africa Office activities including resource mobilization to enhance activities of the Office;
  7. Analyse trends and emerging issues on environment in African countries and identify existing and planned initiatives and programmes of other institutions that are relevant to UN Environment programme of work;
  8. Create and prepare documents, such as agendas, presentations, reports, correspondence, and curriculum/course materials, by using business or academic program standards and/or technical/scientific protocols.
  9. Initaite budget revisions and analysis and monitor the use of the project resources.
  10. Support work relating to UNDAF and UN country activities and the ongoing UN reforms.
  11. Engage in consolidation work in support to the Regional development Coordination Officer.
  12. Communicate, interpret, and clarify program related matters and specific policy information; recommend updating and/or developing policies and procedures draft.
  13. Arrange schedules, appointments, conference calls, and skype meetings with country actors to speed office projects and programmes implementation.
  14. Support conferences and events organisation, including making arrangements for staffing and technical support, facilities, registration, and catering; and providing information to participants.
  15. Maintain database, perform data entry and retrieval, create spreadsheets and reports, and compile statistics.
  16. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Requirements Required degree level: Master degree or equivalent Education - Additional Comments:

Education: An advanced university degree in International Development, Public Administration, Environmental sciences, Chemistry, Environmental management, or in a related field is required. A first level university degree in combination with two years qualifying professional experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Required experience: 60 Months Experience remark:

Experience: 5 years of relevant professional experience and proven track record in progressively responsible in international environmental management; Experience in planning and project management would be an asset. Work experience with the United Nations is highly desirable

Language skills:
  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
