Under the supervision of the Chef/Trainer, the Assistant Chef/Trainer will supervise, train and manage IRC commercial food production activities and food-related participant trainings. The Chef/Trainer will support all participants in safe, clean commercial kitchen activities and food production, while also increasing participant job readiness and vocational English skills. The Assistant Chef/Trainer is also responsible for maintaining and managing Project CHOP inventory (e.g. food, packaging, kitchen equipment and materials) and shared kitchen operations with community partners. The Assistant Chef/Trainer will work to ensure operations are efficient to ensure business success and revenue generation.This includes the production and on-time delivery on all customer orders as well as overseeing and executing high-quality special events. The Assistant Chef/Trainer will support the Chef/Trainer on client training, finance administration and other program-related matters as needed, and also work with the MAKE Projects team on client and business goals as needed.

Major Responsibilities:

• Assist Chef/Trainer in daily production of CHOP Family Meals;

• Assist in running and overseeing Saturday MAKE Café;

• Train CHOP participants in all kitchen production activities as well as job readiness skills, English kitchen vocabulary, and culinary job skills;

• Assist in executing special events including dinners, cooking classes, and community events;

• Contribute to menu planning for all business lines including Family Meals, Saturday MAKE Cafe, catering, and special events;

• Procure food products and kitchen equipment as needed from local vendors;

• Produce value added products for CSA distribution and Pantry sales utilizing excess FarmWorks produce;

• In absence of the Chef Trainer assume the lead role in all production and overseeing CHOP participants and training;

• Keep track of all receipts and enter where appropriate;

• Contribute to CHOP publications including weekly CSA Newsletter, ircmake.org website, and Family Meal descriptions;

• Execute both on and off site catering events;

• Assist with delivery of CHOP Family Meals and catering;

• Maintain a clean and orderly kitchen;

• Contribute to staff meetings;

• Provide professional, organized and timely communication with Project CHOP customers;

• Cultivate strong relationships with all community partners, from new customers, vendors, facilities partners, etc.

• Provide and collect client assessments in a timely, organized and thorough manner;

• Exhibit a high-level of professionalism in internal and external communications as well as in all kitchen and food production operations;

• Contribute, collaborative and partner with members in MAKE Projects synergistic food and farming projects and services;

• Other duties, as necessary.
