Tiered Approach

In line with the commitment to safeguard capacity and support personnel already in the Organization, a majority of UNDP UNCDF/UNV vacancies are advertised using a tiered application process whereby:

  • Tier 0: UNDP/UNCDF/UNV IP staff holding permanent (PA) and fixed-term (FTA) appointments, whose posts will be abolished, or contracts will be terminated or not renewed during 2026.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Communications and Reporting Associate will be responsible to execute daily project related communication efforts and activities, including but not limited to project branding, communications plan and strategy, visibility, social media management, outreach, media coordination internal and external communication.

Actively support the designing, development and implementation of project communication and outreach strategy

  • Provide support to implement and update communications and visibility strategy aligned with UNDP standards.
  • Assist in production of high-quality materials, including press releases, newsletters, infographics, reports, case studies, photo essays, and short videos.
  • Design content, layout, and production of communication outputs, briefing and media materials, for various communication channels, including website, social media, blogs, and newsletters.
  • Maintain an information database, a digital library of media, photographs, and knowledge products.
  • Track communication outputs, media coverage, and audience engagement.
  • Generate reports and periodic updates on project progress reports, highlighting communication milestones and results.
  • Suggest adjustments to enhance visibility, outreach, and impact.

Support to strengthen media engagement and partnerships:

  • Support to establish and maintain coordination with national and international media outlets, journalists, government counterparts, and partner institutions’ communication focal points and influencers to raise awareness of project outcomes.
  • Ensure media coverage of key milestones, site visits, and events related to project.
  • Work with suppliers/vendors as and when necessary
  • Under the guidance of the Project Manager, manage and coordinate with project team to ensure branding and visibility of the project at all levels - local, district and national including partners.

Support and ensure knowledge management and dissemination:

  • Document project progress, achievements, and lessons learned through accessible communication formats.
  • Provide support to translate, edit and proofread different articles and content. for diverse audiences.
  • Contribute to South-South exchanges by preparing content for UNDP, and donor platforms.
  • Collect, analyze, and report disaggregated data (by sex, age, disability, and other relevant factors) to identify gaps and recommend strategies for inclusive programming.
  • Ensure consistency of project messaging across all channels and partners.

Coordinate outreach and advocacy activities ensuring GESI:

  • Organize public events, workshops, roundtable discussions, press conferences, briefing sessions, seminars, interviews and campaigns to showcase project achievements.
  • Provide communication support for donor engagement, joint monitoring missions, and stakeholder consultations.
  • Ensure that GESI principles are integrated in all planning, implementation, and monitoring processes to ensure equitable participation and benefits for women, men, persons with disabilities, and marginalized groups.
  • Manage social media accounts to share stories, statistics, and initiatives that promote gender equality and social inclusion, fostering necessary discussions around these topics.

The incumbent performs other duties within their functional profile as deemed necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization.

Institutional Arrangement The Communication and Reporting Associate will report directly to the Project Manager and work closely with the Communication Analyst of UNDP Country Office.

Required Skills and Experience

Min. Education requirements
  • Secondary education is required.

    Or

  • A first-level university degree (bachelor’s degree) in Communication, Journalism, Media Relations, External Relations, Public Affairs, International Development, Social Sciences, or related fields will be given due consideration but is not a requirement.
Min. years of relevant work experience 
  • A minimum of 7 years (with secondary education) or 4 years (with a bachelor’s degree) of relevant working experience in communication and reporting.
Required skills
  • Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.).
Desired skills in addition to the competencies covered in the Competencies section
  • Excellent experience of using MS Office and design/multimedia tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, graphic design, video editing software).
  • Experience of working in the communications field of media, mass communications, and outreach.
  • Working experience of traditional and social media, digital marketing, multimedia (photography/videography) tools and a variety of other communication platforms.
  • Demonstrated experience of coordinating with different stakeholders and facilitating discussions including shared learning dialogues.
  • Experience working with UN Agencies, UNDP, other donor-funded projects, Government of Nepal and/or development partners on communication/information management works will be advantage.
  • Experience in managing relationships with aid agencies, government bodies, media and any relevant stakeholders on information management and communication.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both Nepali and English language with experience in translation and transcription.
  • Knowledge of gender and social inclusion in communication, outreach and advocacy.
  • Excellent experience of preparing high quality reports, human interest stories, case studies and other knowledge products.
  • Proven experience in preparing high level visibility materials and strengthen media engagement across various media platforms.
Required Language(s) 

Fluency in English and Nepali is required.

Knowledge of any other local language will be an asset.
