OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST
Under the overall authority of the Assistant Director-General for Education, and direct supervision from the Director of the Future of Learning and Innovation Team, the incumbent is responsible for implementing, monitoring and reporting on research and foresight projects and programmes, with an emphasis on innovative educational approaches. The incumbent will be expected to perform the following essential duties:
- Implement, monitor, evaluate and report on projects and programs, assuming one or more thematic and/or focal responsibilities, including the development of knowledge products, such as statistical analyses, the Education Research and Foresight (ERF)ERF Working Papers series, global/regional studies, and other reports, as well as the monitoring of emerging issues and innovations in education.
- Contribute to, and provide strategic guidance on UNESCO activities related to the Futures of Education initiative, and coordinate engagement of Member States and partners in this area.
- Provide guidance and monitor the work of regional and field offices in the domain of research and foresight, and offer technical support, including capacity development resources, to field staff.
- Maintain and develop collaboration within the UNESCO Education Sector with other programme Sectors, Regional Bureaus and Education Category I Institutes on the design, implementation and evaluation of the programme.
- Contribute to resource mobilization by playing an active role in funding and project proposal developments, submissions and follow-up.
- Ensure the preparation of extra-budgetary projects progress reports, including the submission of essential information to concerned parties to support the timely finalization of accurate financial reports.
Education
- Advanced University degree (Master’s or equivalent) in education, social sciences, economics, international development, public policy or closely related areas.
Work Experience
- Minimum of 4 years of relevant professional experience in international development, education policies, of which preferably 2 years acquired at the international level.
- Experience in international education research and/or statistical analysis.

Experience in the management of international education programmes.
Skills and competencies
- Recognised ability in statistical analysis related to education.
- Proven ability to draft high quality, clear, concise analyses and reports.
- Demonstrated fund raising and resource mobilisation skills.
- Excellent management, coordination, interpersonal and negotiation skills, as well as an ability to network with a range of partners, donors and other stakeholders.
- Excellent presentation skills and ability to communicate effectively and persuasively in a multicultural environment.
- Excellent IT skills.
Languages
- Excellent knowledge (written and spoken) of English and good knowledge of French.
Work Experience
- Proven experience in collecting, analysing data at the international level and developing and disseminating knowledge products.

Demonstrated professional experience in management, design and coordination of education programmes and strategies at the international level.
Skills/Competecies
- Knowledge of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and, in particular, SDG 4 indicators and monitoring frameworks.
- Familiarity with statistical analysis software.

Familiarity with the work and functioning of the UN System, including UNESCO.
Languages
- Good knowledge of other UNESCO official languages (Arabic, Chinese, Russian and Spanish).
