A. BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE

WFP Gambia’s Country Strategic Plan (CSP) 2019-2021 aims to support the Government in reaching the National Development Plan (2017-2021)’s goals through investments in sectors relevant to Sustainable Development Goal 2. This CSP positions WFP as an enabler for the Government and combines direct implementation and capacity support in the enhancement of the national transition process. WFP support constitutes direct operational support, knowledge transfer and technical assistance and it contribute to WFP's Strategic Results 1, 2, 3 and 5 in line with the National Development Plan, the National Social Protection Policy and the United Nations development assistance framework for 2017–2021.

 

The CSP focuses on contingency plans for response to shocks (Strategic outcome 1); building the resilience of vulnerable populations through nutrition-sensitive and gender-responsive social safety nets for children in primary and early childhood education, pregnant and lactating women and girls, children under the age of 5 and livelihood support to smallholder farmers (Strategic outcomes 2, 3 and 4) and capacity strengthening to facilitate the alignment of national policies through an integrated approach to food and nutrition security that includes the school meals programme, nutrition interventions, social protection, disaster risk reduction and early-warning systems (Strategic outcome 5). Critical new focus areas will be support for development of a social protection system focused on mainstreaming the national school meals programme as a national safety net, food fortification and south south and triangular cooperation. The country office (CO) aims to streamline all planning and implementation processes to ensure alignment with corporate standards and procedures.

The purpose of this position is to perform specialized communications activities and contribute to the development of communications products/services and campaigns that maintain and enhance the visibility and reputation of WFP and supports fundraising activities.

Under the supervision of the Partnerships Officer and Head of Communications, and in collaboration with the Country Director, the Communication Associate is responsible for the below activities:

B. ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES (not all inclusive):

 

Produce multimedia content for use on traditional and social media platforms and networks, and printed materials, to enhance coverage and support of WFP’s activities, ensuring consistency with corporate messages and branding guidelines. This includes photos, videos, motion graphics and graphic design for printed materials.

Gather new content that positions WFP strategically and for WFP communication activities in addition to coverage of events and missions. As necessary, work with WFP partners to coordinate content gathering and production of content.

Manage the WFP social media platforms on a daily/regular basis- identify relevant and topical content.

Manage branding, archiving, storage and distribution of audio/visual content in an organized manner to ensure easy search and retrieval for relevant individuals/units both internally and externally. Where possible automate the archives.

Conduct research, on topical and suggest ideas, eg gender and gender-based violence, children, youth, disabled and elderly among others, and provide coordination support to ensure the timely and effective delivery of video/film, photography and graphic design projects.

Provide support, training and guidance to WFP and partner staff in basic production skills and content gathering.

Distribute and promote WFP communications advocacy and marketing guidelines for staff to refer to when creating content.

Support WFP’s engagement with the communities, national and local authorities, cooperating partners and UN agencies to build brand awareness; and promote community engagement to ensure that communities and authorities understand WFP’s mission and programmes;

Respond to specialized queries and requests for support, using initiative and following standard processes, to ensure timely and accurate resolution of all inquiries.

Ability to work effectively in a team and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, in order to provide an aligned, coherent service, and to identify opportunities to collaborate/integrate processes and activities.

Assist the communications team with projects, events and general administrative duties as necessary.

Any other duties that may be assigned by your supervisor.

DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE:  

 

REQUIRED WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Six (6) years work experience with at least three (3) years’ experience in production of video and photographs in a professional context.
  • Experience producing and tailoring video/photo content for different media platforms.
  • Experience within a humanitarian and/or development context (added advantage).

 

 

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Advanced technical skills in using video and photo editing tools and software (Adobe Creative Cloud preferred)
  • Video production including filming with DSLR camera and editing
  • Photography and photo editing
  • Motion graphics and graphic design
  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively through all stages of the production process.

 

 

STANDARD MINIMUM ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Completion of secondary school education. A post-secondary certificate in the multimedia field is desirable.

Language: Fluency in English both oral and written.
