BACKGROUND: Founded in 1933, the International Rescue Committee is a leading, non-sectarian, non-profit organization providing emergency relief, protection, rehabilitation assistance, resettlement services, and advocacy for refugees and victims of oppression or violent conflict.Domestically, our 26 offices across the U.S. ensure new arrivals have food, shelter, and clothing, and work with refugees to help them gain self-sufficiency.

The Administrative, Finance & Operations (AFOP) team provides support and assistance to the various teams of the IRC SLC office.This includes payment distribution, financial accounting, new hire processing, and numerous other tasks.Our mission is to help our colleagues’ jobs easier, so they can provide their full attention to directly helping our clients.

SCOPE OF INTERN WORK: With oversight from the Finance Coordinator/Deputy Director, the Finance Intern will play a support role in typical daily and monthly financial tasks.  He or she will assist with payment processing, data entry, and building financial spreadsheets in Microsoft Excel. This position reports to the Finance Coordinator/Deputy Director.

COMMITMENT: August 30th 2021 – December 17th 2021, 15-20 hours per week

RESPONSIBILITIES:

•Prepare journal entries to record HQ transactions in the regional office accounting software.

•Work with Finance Coordinator to review all accounting transactions to ensure proper coding and enter all transactions into IRC’s accounting software.

•Data entry and processing the payment through accounting system

•Tracking budgets

•Build spreadsheets using macros, VBA, etc to automate Excel spreadsheet processes.

•Other duties as assigned.

1. To understand non-profit operations and sustainability, e.g. finance and administration

2. To understand the financial needs of refugees, immigrants and low-income individuals in Utah.

3. The intern will gain experience with methods and technology used to disseminate learning.
