Description

Space Segment Product Assurance and Safety Manager in the Product Assurance and Safety Department, Directorate of Technology, Engineering and Quality.

Duties

You will be assigned as integrated support to the Directorate of Navigation and will report to the Head of the Galileo Space Segment Product Assurance and Safety Unit with respect to the specific responsibilities and duties outlined below.

 

For maintenance of professional standards, implementation of the ESA general Product Assurance and Safety (PA&S) policy, and contributions to corporate tasks (e.g. reviews, standardisation, alerts, lessons learned), you will report to the Head of the Product Assurance and Safety Department, via and with the coordination of, the Head of the Navigation PA & Safety Office.

 

Specific responsibilities and duties include:

 

  • Contributing to establishing and maintaining the particular project PA&S requirements baseline for the Galileo Space Segment in compliance with the ESA general Product Assurance and Safety policy;
  • Reviewing contractor plans, specifications and effort proposed for execution of the project PA&S programme;
  • Guiding and monitoring the implementation of PA&S requirements by contractors in order to assess performance/effectiveness, participating in design reviews, and directing the necessary preventive or corrective actions;
  • Guiding and monitoring the application and procurement of EEE parts, materials and processes and controlling the implementation of applicable requirements;
  • Representing ESA on Boards established under the project to handle Non-conformances / Failure Reviews, Test Reviews, etc.;
  • Contributing to implementation of the Software PA and Software configuration Management Requirements baseline across the Galileo Space Segment;
  • Monitoring integration and test activities by means of quality assurance audits, mandatory and key inspection points, test witnessing and configuration inspections;
  • Supporting definition of the formal acceptance requirements and conduct of Acceptance Reviews of all assigned contractual deliverable items;
  • Ensuring the preparation of design trade-offs, analysis and reports using RAMS data to support project decisions;
  • Providing support for security activities for the Galileo space segment as appropriate;
  • Participating in periodic meetings with the parent organisational unit and contributing to the transfer of technical knowledge and lessons learned across the Agency.

 

In carrying out these tasks, you will receive support from experts in the Galileo project team and the ESA Directorate of Technology, Engineering & Quality.

In addition to your Project responsibilities, you will provide support as necessary to NAV PA&S Office activities, including improvement initiatives and coordination meetings

Technical competencies

Education

A Master’s degree in engineering or technical sciences is required.

Additional requirements

You should have experience of managing Product Assurance for a large satellite project as well as good knowledge of software and RAMS engineering techniques.
A background in space systems, with experience in security, is an asset.
You also must be eligible for security clearance by your national security administration.

The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset.
