Institutional Arrangement

Under the direct supervision of the Finance Analyst, the Finance Assistant ensures effective execution of financial services and processes in CO and transparent utilization of financial resources. The Finance Assistant promotes a client-oriented approach consistent with UNDP rules and regulations.

The Finance Assistant works in close collaboration with the operations, programme and projects’ staff in the CO and with UNDP HQs staff for resolving finance-related issues and information exchange. Incumbent is expected to display initiative, a positive approach and a strong client orientation. As such, s/he might be required to undertake other emerging tasks and additional duties as required by direct supervisor or senior management.

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities

•   Provides accounting, finance and administrative support to the Finance Unit.

•    Ensures implementation of operational and financial management strategies, adapts processes and procedures.
•   Functioning of cost-recovery system.

•   Ensures facilitation of knowledge building and knowledge sharing in the CO.

Fundamental knowledge of processes, methods and procedures: Understands the main processes, procedures and methods of work, applies them consistently in work tasks.

 

Required Skills and Experience

Minimum Academic Education:

University Degree in Finance or Accounting, is a must.
 

Minimum years of relevant Work experience:

•    2 years of relevant financial experience is required at the national or international level.
•    Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.) and knowledge of spreadsheet and database packages, experience in handling of web-based management systems.
•   Experience with ERP financials, preferably PeopleSoft, desirable.
•   Knowledge of IPSAS and/or IFRS desirable.

Required Language(s) (at working level):

  • Proficiency in English & Arabic is required.
  • Any other official language of the UN will be desirable.

Travel:

Travel may be expected with performing the functions.
