We are currently seeking qualified Deputy Chief of Party candidates for the anticipated USAID-funded Colombia Destination Nature Activity (DNA).
Program Description:
USAID Colombia’s Concept Paper identifies two primary objectives: 1) Develop the market for sustainable nature tourism in targeted destinations; and 2) Improve evidence-based governance and coordination of sustainable nature tourism in targeted destinations. The DNA will build sustainable business models for Colombia's nature-based tourism that support community development, conserve the country's rich biodiversity, and reduce drivers of land use change. The expected geographic focus is on regions with Planes de Desarrollo con Enfoque Territorial (Territorial Focused Development Plans), in which sustainable nature tourism is a valid strategy to promote community development, biodiversity conservation, and to reduce land use change drivers.
Position is contingent upon receipt of donor funding and will be based in Bogotá, Colombia. Colombian national candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
Position Description:
The Deputy Chief of Party will report to the Chief of Party and assist him/her with the management and implementation of the project and coordination of technical, administrative and reporting functions. In select instances, and in consultation with project leadership, the DCOP will represent the project when the COP is unavailable. S/he will provide key day-to-day oversight of project operations and will oversee a team of senior finance and administrative staff to ensure that activities are implemented on schedule and within budget. The successful DCOP candidate will have strong project management credentials, demonstrable technical skills, and previous experience in meeting the legal, administrative, financial, operational and technical requirements of USAID.
Qualifications:

Requires a Bachelor's degree in a directly relevant field from an accredited university; Master's degree highly preferred.

At least 10 years of experience in relevant management, supervisory, or technical experience working with programs or business activities that are of a similar scope and/or scale to this program;

Prior experience strengthening the growth of tourism and related sectors required, with experience in Colombia or similar contexts preferred;

Demonstrated leadership and skills related to program management, including budget and personnel management, motivating and supervising team efforts, solid performance management, including work planning, implementation, and achieving success in complex activities;

Demonstrated knowledge of USAID rules, regulations, policies, and procedures as they relate to project and program compliance and reporting;

Demonstrated ability to successfully manage client and stakeholder relationships, with a high level of organizational, communication and problem solving skills;

Ability to work well with others and to develop and maintain compatibility among project staff, subcontractors, consultants, and recipients of assistance;

Demonstrated familiarity working in Latin America, preferably in Colombia;

Well-developed written and oral communication skills;

Fluency in English and Spanish required; and

Ability to promote and uphold principles of inclusion, with regard to gender, disabilities, and other marginalized identities.
