Context
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. UNEP’s Policy and Programme Division consolidates the policy, programme, monitoring, gender and social safeguards functions of UNEP as well as its engagement with the United Nations system and key global processes such as the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the Sustainable Development Goals and other landmark global policy decisions in the environmental field. This UNV assignment is part of UNEP’s Policy and Programme Division, supporting the Director’s Office with providing oversight and management of the Division’s work, including coordinating strategic, programmatic and administrative tasks, ensuring quality control, tracking outputs and results, reporting internally and externally to Member States and stakeholders, and supporting all areas of work for the Policy and Programme Division workflow
Task description
Under the direct supervision of the Special Assistant, Policy and Programme Division, the UNV Programme Management Associate will: - Research, compile, analyze, synthesize and present information/data on a wide range of strategic and programmatic topics informing the delivery of UNEP’s Medium-Term Strategy 2022-2025 and Programme of Work and the organization’s commitments in the context of the UN Reforms, highlighting noteworthy issues/trends, emerging risks and priorities for consideration by the Director’s Office. - Support the preparation of policy briefs and other briefing materials, talking points, relevant documentation and contributions for PPD’s involvement in UN-wide interagency and intergovernmental processes, including but not limited to the Committee of Permanent Representatives meetings, the UNEA, the UN General Assembly, the Environment Management Group, the UN Sustainable Development Group and other processes. - Support the Director’s Office with the coordination of key activities and deliverables, the foresight and tracking of outputs and results and reporting to Executive Office and UNEP Senior Management. - Contribute to monitoring and undertaking quality control of the Division’s work and its communication internally across the Division as well as other UNEP Divisions and Regional Offices, and externally to Member States, partners and other stakeholders. - Provide support, as appropriate, with the timely handling of human resources and finance-related matters, including recruitments and preparation of contracts, divisional budget preparation, resource allocation processes etc. - Provide effective day-to-day programmatic, administrative and operational support to the Policy and Programme Division Director’s Office. - Provide flexible and ad hoc support the Directorate in various duties, as and when required and perform any other related tasks assigned by the supervisor.
