Description
G1G Ground Mission Segment (GMS) Engineer in the Ground Mission Segment Engineering and Elements Unit, Galileo G1 Ground Mission Segment and Ground Security Management Service, Galileo Ground Segment Procurement Office, Galileo Programme Department, Directorate of Navigation.
The G1G GMS Engineer supports the procurement and further development of the Ground Mission Segment and its elements of the Processing Chain contributing to the various Galileo services.
Duties
You will be responsible for technical support in the context of maintaining the GMS technical baseline in line with system baseline, following up and monitoring the Ground Mission Segment, elements engineering and design activities, as well as reviewing technical documents against the Segment technical requirements and design, and acting as an interface with the system team for the resolution of Segment technical issues.
Your main duties in these technical fields will include:
- conducting evaluation of GMS design and evolution, with a specific focus on GMS algorithms and performances, ensuring the design, development, deployment, verification, tuning and validation of the GMS functions that generate and monitor the navigation products (i.e. ephemeris, clock, group delay, code & phase biases, etc.) in line with the allocated performances for service provision (i.e.. accuracy, availability and robustness requirements) and development constraints;
- following up GMS design and implementation both at element and segment level, including performance aspects;
- supporting GMS engineering activities, such as consolidation and maintenance of the segment requirement and interfaces in line with the system baseline, change management and baseline evolutions (DCPs/DCNs), assessment of contractors’ RFDs/RFWs; new service evaluation and contributing to proposal assessments;
- providing expert technical support and consultancy to the G1 System, IVQ and Security teams for GMS technical issues throughout all project phases and in particular for segment and system reviews and technical evaluation boards;
- contributing to ESA procurement activities (preparation of ITT documents, evaluation of proposals and negotiating of contracts, managing technical implementation at element level) for topics related to GMS engineering, in particular contributing to the procurement activities for the next Galileo Ground Segment Generation (G2G).
In performing these duties, you will be expected to interface closely with the Galileo Ground Segment Engineering Team, the Galileo System Engineering and IVQ Teams, the Galileo Security Office, the Operations Team, the related industrial teams and the Product Assurance Office.

Education
A Master's degree in physics, electrical or aerospace engineering or other scientific discipline is required for this post.
Additional requirements
Since many of the activities involved in this role will take place within industry or at operational sites, you must be prepared to travel on a regular basis.
A background and experience in navigation and security systems, including cyber security, knowledge of ground segment and satellite operations and infrastructure, plus familiarity with ECSS standards are desirable.
Experience and understanding of the following technologies and engineering practices would also be considered an asset: MBSE (e.g. Capella), virtualisation, JIRA/Confluence, Kafka.
You must be eligible to obtain security clearance from your relevant national authority.

The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset.
