The United Nations World Food Programme is the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate. We are the world’s largest humanitarian organization, saving lives in emergencies and using food assistance to build a pathway to peace, stability and prosperity for people recovering from conflict, disasters and the impact of climate change.
Aiming to feed 13 million of the most vulnerable people with food assistance, WFP’s emergency response in Yemen is the agency’s largest anywhere in the world. WFP also provides nutrition support to 1.7 million children and mothers, and delivers school meals to 850,000 children each day.
ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT
As part of its general food assistance operation, WFP currently provides food parcels to more than 2 million people per month through its Commodity Vouchers through Traders’ Network (CVTN) programme. This position plays a crucial role in supporting the CVTN operation by working closely with key internal and external stakeholders to effectively monitor supplier performance, payment processes, food quality and quantity issues, and ensure that the people we serve are treated with respect and dignity at all times.
JOB PURPOSE
To provide senior-level support to the day-to-day operations of the CVTN programme, working closely with the head of unit and other team members to ensure timely delivery of monthly food assistance in compliance with WFP regulations, rules and other processes. This role will involve active supervision of other employees.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)
- Proactively manage complex operational issues and provide solutions or recommendations related to all assistance modalities, using initiative and following processes, to ensure the provision of timely resolutions with excellent client service mind-set.
- Manage logistics vendors’ contracting activities, including performance monitoring, measurement, and management, supported by analysis and recommendations.
- Gather market intelligence, coordinate vendor assessments (e.g. transporters, retailers) and produce relevant reports to support vendor selection process.
- Contribute towards the development of logistics plans and processes, ensuring compliance with wider logistics policies and WFP standards.
- Support logistics projects or operational day-to-day activities following standard processes and contributing, directly or indirectly, to the effective delivery of food assistance to beneficiaries.
- Collect and analyse data through research and networking with colleagues to recommend actions to the supervisor to improve performance of local logistics operations.
- Conduct portions of financial analysis and budget reviews, drawing out insights and recommending actions to the supervisor to optimise use of available funds.
- Guide and coach support staff on technical issues, acting as a point of referral and supporting them with analysis and queries.

- Collate data and contribute to preparation of accurate and timely reporting, supporting a WFP wide view of logistics activities that enables informed decision making and consistency of information presented to stakeholders.
- Support the capacity building of WFP staff and partners for efficient and effective delivery of food assistance to beneficiaries (e.g. through contribution to the training materials).
- Identify and build productive relationships with logistics colleagues and staff within the area of assignment to support an integrated approach to food assistance.
- Follow emergency logistics preparedness practices to ensure WFP can quickly respond and deploy food and needed resources to affected areas at the onset of the crisis.
- Act in an assigned emergency response capacity as required to meet emergency food assistance needs.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: Minimum six years of relevant work experience in supply chain.
Education: Completion of secondary school education. A post-secondary certificate in the related functional area is an advantage.
Language: Fluency (level C) in English language. Fluency (level C) in Arabic Language.
