Under the supervision of the Communication Specialist, serves as principal assistant for executing UNICEF Uganda’s social and digital media functions, which include developing content plans for UNICEF Uganda’s Facebook, Twitter, You Tube, Instagram and other social media platforms, consistently updating all UNICEF Uganda’s social media platforms and providing overall digital communication support to UNICEF Uganda activities.

How can you make a difference?

Under the supervision of the Communication Specialist, serves as principal assistant for executing UNICEF Uganda’s social and digital media functions, which include developing content plans for UNICEF Uganda’s Facebook, Twitter, You Tube, Instagram, and other social media platforms, consistently updating all UNICEF Uganda’s social media platforms and providing overall digital communication support to UNICEF Uganda activities. 

Summary of key functions/accountabilities:

  1. Develops and implements UNICEF Uganda social media content plans and content and leads on the social and digital media monitoring and evaluation aspects.
  2. Consistently updates all UNICEF Uganda’s social media platforms (i.e., Facebook, Twitter, You Tube, Instagram etc.) with relevant content from UNICEF, partners, government, donors, young people, including responding in a timely manner to comments from the general public.
  3. Analyses and maintains an overview of the work of the office to ensure that timely digital communication support is provided on UNICEF Uganda activities.  Reviews and evaluates digital communication activities and requests from sections/field offices/sectors directly or through upper-level supervisors.
  4. Maintains UNICEF Uganda digital communication and information support, including stakeholder networks (i.e., media, celebrities, companies, influencers etc.) and library to ensure effective timely deliverance of content and materials.
  5. Assist supervisor in organizing and briefing visitors in the concerned area of responsibility (i.e., social and digital media influencers, implementing partners, government ministries, the UN family, departments and agencies who work with UCO on specific digital campaigns).
  6. In consultation with supervisor, orders books and other relevant publications for wider dissemination to audiences online.
  7. Files and keeps all materials, documents, journals, periodicals and related publications majorly in soft copy as the current trends may not permit printing of bulk materials.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Completion of Secondary School, University level courses in Communication, Mass Communication, Journalism, Digital Communication, Social Media, Marketing or any other related field of discipline relevant to the job is an asset.
  • 7 years of relevant professional work experience with both national and international experience in social media, digital communication, communication, or any other relevant function is required.
  • Relevant experience in a UN system agency or organization is considered as an asset.
  • Fluency in English is required.  Knowledge of another official UN language or local language of the duty station is considered as an asset.
