The International Energy Agency (IEA) is an intergovernmental organisation committed to advancing security of energy supply, economic growth and environmental sustainability through energy policy co-operation. The IEA operates as an autonomous body within the framework of the OECD. Both the IEA and the OECD seek opportunities to work with an increasing number of non-member countries of growing importance to the world economy. The Agency aims to foster the contribution of the energy sector to economic development and environmental sustainability across the globe.
The IEA seeks an Energy Analyst, Renewable Energy Technologies. Her/his main responsibility will be assessing the status, prospects and potential of renewable energy technologies in an integrated approach, taking into account their variety and their ability to deliver electricity, heat and mobility services, either directly or through the production of renewable hydrogen and hydrogen-based fuels and feedstocks. The successful candidate will be part of a team of enthusiastic professionals and will report directly to the Head of Division.
Main Responsibilities
Research and Analysis
- Analyse the status, costs and potential of renewable energy technologies to decarbonise hard-to-abate end-use sectors like industry, buildings and transport.
- Participate in assessing the role of renewables in IEA long-term scenarios and roadmaps.
- Help to develop policy recommendations for a secure, system-friendly and cost-effective deployment of renewable energy technologies.
- Co-author and/or contribute to relevant IEA publications concerning renewable energy technologies.
Liaison and Outreach
- Collaborate with the scientific and expert community of IEA’s Energy Technology Network; derive knowledge from IEA Technology Collaboration Programmes to relevant IEA analysis and publications.
Ideal Candidate Profile
Academic Background
- An advanced university degree in physical sciences, engineering, statistics, economics or other relevant disciplines.
Professional Background
- At least five years' experience of analysing and reporting upon selected renewable energy technologies
- Excellent understanding of the energy sector and technologies in different countries and contexts.
- Good understanding of energy technology policies.

Background and expertise on one or more of the following topics would be considered an asset
- Sustainability issues related to renewable energy, especially bioenergy
- Electrification opportunities for industrial energy use
- System integration of renewables, with a focus on managing variability from wind and solar.
Languages
- Working knowledge of both OECD official languages (English and French) would be an asset.
- Knowledge of other languages would be an asset.

Contract Duration
- Two-year fixed term appointment, with the possibility of renewal.
- Depending on level of experience, monthly salary starts at either 6,308.99 EUR or 7,784.57 EUR, plus allowances based on eligibility, exempt of French income tax.

This position is twin graded A2/A3. Appointment will be based on the candidate’s level of experience and demonstrated ability to perform the functions at the expected level.
Please note that the appointment may be made at a lower grade based on the qualifications and professional experience of the selected applicant.
Selection Process
For retained candidates, written tests/video-recorded interviews are foreseen early March and panel interviews are planned for end March.
