Job Description
Infectious diseases present unprecedented health-related (health, health system, immunisation services), economic, political and social challenges for the countries Gavi supports. In addition to the vaccines currently delivered through ongoing routine programmes, the Policy team at Gavi is monitoring the pipeline for other vaccines for endemic and epidemic pathogens to be better prepared for future investment decisions. This internship will support continuing work to monitor the emerging evidence related to endemic and epidemic pathogens. It will also assist with the delivery of other elements of the vaccine policy making process such as stakeholder consultations, investment case development, and monitoring and learning of policy implementation.

The timeframe for this internship position is the spring or summer of 2022.

KEY FUNCTIONS AND DELIVERABLES     

•    Horizon scanning of emerging research, regulatory and market related evidence relevant for vaccines for endemic and epidemic diseases;
•    Development of draft meeting materials (e.g., pre-read materials, presentations, meeting summaries);
•    Data collection and summary report(s) from desktop literature reviews;
•    Gain global health skills and knowledge, including Gavi vaccines stakeholders, R&D financing, vaccine delivery priorities and policy making.
Main Duties/Responsibilities
•    Support data gathering, analyses and consultations related to R&D for vaccines for epidemic and endemic pathogens;
•    Support analysis and develop materials to guide future Gavi vaccine investment cases;
•    Assist team with project management duties;
•    As needed, prepare summary documents, presentations and reports related to analyses and consultations for meetings with senior Gavi leadership and external stakeholders;
•    Assist with the preparation of communication materials related to vaccine policies for internal and external stakeholder engagement.

Work Experience
•    Minimum of 1 years’ previous work experience.
Skills/Competencies
•    Exceptional written and verbal communication skills;
•    Good quantitative skills and proficiency in data analysis;
•    Proficiency with Microsoft Powerpoint, Excel, and Word;
•    Some familiarity with the global health environment and actors;
•    Some knowledge of vaccine development/ vaccine R&D landscape preferred;
•    Some expertise in epidemiology and infectious diseases;
•    Some experience working in diverse environments;
•    Ability to work independently and iteratively, and effectively prioritise and execute tasks in a fast-paced, open environment.
Languages
•    Written and spoken fluency in English;
•    Other languages (particularly French) a plus.
Academic Qualifications
•    Degree in public health, science, or a related field.
