Embracing two macro-regions, the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), the WFP Regional Bureau Cairo (RBC) oversees a vast area with some of the most critical humanitarian emergencies of our time.

LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES & OUTCOMES:

  • Knowledge of WFP’s humanitarian work, operations, and activities in the Middle East, and North Africa.
  • Assist WFP RBC with political analysis from a security perspective.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education:

-    University student with graduation year in 2021 or 2022 
-    Recent graduate (max. 6 months after graduation) 
-    Strong academic track record (good, very good or excellent ratings) preferred studies in International Relations; Security; Counter Terrorism or Extremism in the Middle East, Political Science.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

•    The incumbent should have the following skills and experience:
•    Advanced Arabic and English language skills both written and oral.
•    Experience utilizing computer programs, including word processing, and spreadsheets 
•    Interest in media, current news and regional politics.
•    Accurate, creative open-minded team player with strong initiative and willingness to learn.

Language:

  • Fluent in English and, ideally, in an additional UN language

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

 

The Security Intern will assist the WFP RBC Security Unit with the following tasks: 
-    Carry out political analysis of the Middle East and Northern Africa (MENA) region, in particular the countries that are part of WFP RBC’s portfolio.
-    Produce regular reporting that is relevant to WFP operations in the MENA region. 
-    Contribute to special projects as assigned by the Security Analyst and the Regional Security Officer. 
 

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  • Interns receive a monthly stipend from WFP depending on the duty station of assignment. 
  • WFP is not responsible for living expenses, arrangements for accommodation, necessary visas and related costs.
  • Depending on the duty station of assignment, WFP will reimburse travel tickets for candidates who are nationals of developing countries and are pursuing their studies in their home country.
  • WFP will recognize candidates’ educational credentials from recognised institutions that have been certified by competent international or national authorities such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) or Ministries of Education;
  • Candidates who bear any of the following relations to WFP staff members are not eligible to apply: sons, daughters, brothers or sisters.
