The International Republican Institute’s Center for Global Impact is designed to help IRI learn, innovate, and lead in global democratic development programming. Comprised of experts specializing in a range of technical areas and program staff who oversee global and cross-cutting initiatives, the Center leads the Institute’s efforts to contribute to thought leadership, respond to emerging global challenges and trends, facilitate global initiatives, serve as an incubator for new ideas and cutting-edge approaches, and lead IRI knowledge management and organizational learning initiatives.
The Knowledge Management Senior Specialist serves as part of the Center, leading IRI-wide knowledge management initiatives in support of business development, organizational learning, and external engagement. S/he leads the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of IRI-wide institutional knowledge management initiatives, both programmatic and operational. S/he consults with staff across the organization, including regional program and program services staff, to inform IRI’s approach to knowledge management and to share information and outcomes in a systemized, accessible way. Working closely with the Vice President for Strategy and Development and the Center’s Deputy Director for Strategy, Development and Operations, s/he leads IRI’s overall knowledge management strategy in support of IRI’s broader organizational goals.
The Knowledge Management Portfolio employs the use of traditional and digital learning approaches to develop and implement innovative, creative, and effective ways to strategically capture and share technical knowledge, leverage good practices, and improve the effectiveness of development programs around the world. The Knowledge Management Senior Specialist will be responsible for a wide variety of activities related to identifying, managing, packaging, and disseminating key information to advance technical practice and provide practitioners with the tools they need to conduct better development work. Specifically, the Knowledge Management Senior Specialist will lead and support learning events, conduct research, produce resources and guidance, and facilitate ongoing content development and engagement.
Position Requirements
- Undergraduate degree in knowledge management, organizational learning, international development, political science, international relations or related field; Graduate Degree preferred.
- 5-7 years of professional experience in knowledge management. Non-profit experience preferred.
- Demonstrated understanding of knowledge management principles and capacity to deliver knowledge management and/or organizational processes activities.
- Interest and experience in international development a plus.
- Excellent project management and implementation skills.
- Exceptional organizational and detail-oriented skills.
- Creative problem-solver and solutions-oriented..
- Ability to objectively evaluate knowledge management initiatives, synthesize lessons learned, and make adaptations.
- Demonstrated experience distilling complex topics and information into usable and actionable resources for end users.
- Strong interpersonal and written/oral communications skills with diverse stakeholders.
- Proven ability and commitment to creating consensus solutions, including soliciting input from a wide variety of stakeholders.

Primary Functions & Responsibilities
- Create, develop, implement, and maintain knowledge management best practices and processes for continual process improvement to facilitate internal knowledge capture and sharing.
- Lead knowledge management and support organizational learning activities – contribute and grow methods, approaches, and practice in knowledge management and organizational/project learning for international development.
- Integrate information from throughout the organization to facilitate easy access, sharing, and dissemination of information with internal and external clients.
- Identify and share more creative, efficient and effective ways to engage audiences and facilitate sharing and collaboration.
- Evaluate existing knowledge management initiatives and processes to assess effectiveness and make recommendations to improve existing processes with the aim of increasing end user uptake and improving end user experience.
- Establish, maintain, and develop productive working relationships with relevant stakeholders, including DC and field-based staff and external experts.
- Work collaboratively with peers – work within the Center team and closely with other teams including business development, IT, external affairs, grants, and evidence and learning to ensure alignment and cohesion.
- Engage partners and identify knowledge management champions in regional divisions – work with program teams (DC and field) to expand various online/in-person knowledge management activities and generate additional content for knowledge management initiatives.
- Regularly engage staff from across the Institute to inform process development, capture individual-level knowledge, and share knowledge management outcomes.
- Conduct internal trainings for end users on how to effectively utilize knowledge management tools and outcomes in program design and implementation.
- Coordinate with Evidence and Learning Practice to ensure program outcomes from evaluations and other organizational learning activities feed into knowledge management initiatives.
- Manage IRI’s knowledge management tools and resources, to include information management and proper storing of information on SharePoint.
- Evaluate existing governance and guidelines for the use of knowledge management platforms and establish new protocols and processes as needed.
- Prioritize the use of SharePoint while making suggestions to integrate new innovative knowledge management tools and technology.
- Represent IRI at external events to share lessons learned best practices with peer organizations and donors.
- Ensure quality work delivered on time.
