Job Overview/Summary: The Client Benefits Assistant supports the best possible resettlement and post-resettlement experience by supporting clients in accessing state public and government benefits and carrying out related activities. They provide services with a strong emphasis on empowerment through a strengths-based approach that supports clients to thrive in their community.This is a full-time, limited term position.
Major Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
·Strong relationship building, diplomacy, and networking skills; ability to effectively build internal and external relationships.
·Provide a wide variety of direct client services through a trauma-informed framework that safeguards and promotes the dignity and self-determination of clients.Connect clients with IRC and partner resources with a focus on clear and timely communication.
·Work across teams (Resettlement, Extended Case Management, Adult Education, Employment) to communicate client information, advocate on their behalf, and support the coordination of services.
·Prepare client applications for Department of Family and Child Services (DFCS), Social Security Insurance and disability (SSI/SSDI), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), and other related benefits and support follow up activities.
·Assist families with obtaining Childcare and Parents Services (CAPS).
·Develop and maintain partnerships with community organizations for client referrals as needed.
·Satisfy recordkeeping requirements.
·Other duties as assigned.
Demonstrated Skills & Competencies:
·Strong relationship building, diplomacy, and networking skills; ability to effectively build internal and external relationships.
·Demonstrated success working and communicating effectively in a multi-cultural environment.
·Self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills combined with the proven ability to multi-task, prioritize duties, and manage time effectively.
·Attention to detail and accuracy in work product.
·Fluent in English, both spoken and written; proficiency in Dari and/or Pashto is strongly preferred.
·Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook); ability to use the internet and other digital tools for data entry, research and problem-solving purposes.
·Valid driver’s license and access to a personal, insured vehicle.
Job Requirements:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field of study preferred.
Work Experience:
·Relevant professional experience in human services field ; minimum of 2 years’ experience strongly preferred.
·Experience working with refugee and/or immigrant populations strongly preferred.
Working Environment:
·Adhere to all IRC policies and protocols, attend whole staff meetings, and other assigned duties as necessary
·A combination of standard office environment, remote work, and ‘field’ time within the service delivery area to perform the above outlined responsibilities.
·May require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
