Organizational Setting:

For more than four decades, FAO has been working with the Government of the Philippines, civil society, community-based organizations and the private sector to address challenges in the agriculture, fisheries and forestry sector. Joint efforts have included increasing sustainability in agricultural production, promoting value-adding practices, improving post-harvest management, enhancing productivity and increasing the resilience of agriculture-based livelihoods to natural disasters, climatic hazards and armed conflict.

Reporting Lines:

The Project Field Assistant reports to the Project Coordinator and Team Leader.

Technical Focus:

The project, “Emergency assistance in restoring food security and agriculture-based livelihoods in Typhoon Rai affected areas in Region VIII” aims to enable coconut farmers to immediately resume agricultural livelihoods through provision of agriculture inputs, including fertilizers, intercrops (i.e. Cardaba banana, assorted vegetable seeds, and sweet potato), and garden tools to start alternative livelihoods and improve local food security.

Tasks and responsibilities

The Project Field Assistant works in collaboration with the Mindanao Emergency Response and Preparedness Group (MERG) and will carry out the following tasks:

  1. Assist in the coordination work with DA Regional Field Office (DA-RFO), Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA), Local Government Units (provincial and municipal levels) and other partners and stakeholders;
  2. Assist in the conduct of coordination meetings, trainings and field data collection relevant to the project;
  3. Assist in the implementation of project interventions to include, but not limited to, distribution of project inputs, monitoring and assessment of initial results of intervention and report writing;
  4. Inform Project Coordinator on existing and potential field implementation problems and issues that require immediate attention, and recommend viable alternatives to resolve problems and issues;
  5. Assist in maintaining an up-to-date database of farmer-beneficiaries and interventions;
  6. Prepare and submit an end-of-assignment report in English according to FAO's guidelines;

Perform other tasks that may be assigned by the Project Coordinator and Team Leader and FAO Representative.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

  • The candidate must have a university degree in agriculture and other related fields with complementary knowledge in agricultural development planning or emergency management related disciplines;
  • Must have at least two (2) years relevant and progressive experience assisting in project implementation at the field level.
