THE FOOD SECURITY UNIT
The Food Security Unit (FSU) is part of the Program department and it aims to support the programmatic work related to Strategic Objective 5 of IDLO’s Strategic Plan 2020-2024. IDLO’s work on food security focuses on strengthening the links between the rule of law (SDG16) and the right to food and nutrition (SDG2). Building on the principles of equality, inclusiveness, non-discrimination, participation, transparency, and accountability, IDLO works to enable legal environments for the realization of the right to adequate food and related human rights, such as the right to health. For this IDLO works in close collaboration with FAO and IFAD, including joint programmatic activities
THE INTERNSHIP
Reporting to the Food Security Program lead, the Food security Intern will support the work of the Unit and will be assigned, but not necessarily limited to, the following duties and responsibilities:
- Support implementation of the activities related to the Food security portfolio
- Contribute to the development of IDLO thematic framework on food security and rule of law.
- Support the elaboration of briefing notes and technical notes on FSU meetings and activities.
- Assist in coordination between FSU and Field Offices and HQ Departments for the implementation of program activities.
- Provide administrative support to the FSU and ensure process integrity.
- Support the development, formatting, and review of the Unit’s materials
- Support research into political, economic and legal aspects related to food security and the right to food.
- Support transparent and updated program-related data and knowledge management, including over the Unit’s Intranet site.
- Provide the Unit with general support on a rolling basis.
IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE
Education and Experience
- Have completed or be enrolled in a post-graduate (required) course of study at a university or equivalent higher education institution in law or related studies.
- Knowledge and/or previous experience in the field of Food Law, Climate Change, Sustainability and/or the Right to Food is a strong asset.
- Work experience in the NGO sector or international development is an asset.
Languages
- Fluent oral and professional writing skills in English is essential.
- A good command of oral and written French, Spanish and/or Arabic would be an asset.
Technical Competencies
- Advanced computer skills, and in particular excellent ability to use Microsoft Office package;
- Sound capacity of analysis and synthesis;
- Practical experience with clear, concise writing;
- Strong ability to draft and revise documents and handle business correspondence;
- Solid organizational skills.

TERMS & CONDITIONS
The internship is expected to start in the first week of April. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
IDLO will provide the selected intern with a monthly stipend of €600. IDLO does not provide cost coverage for travel arrangements, nor for any other related living and accommodation expenses. Due to the current health emergency, the possibility of a remote internship might be taken into consideration, if required by circumstances.
Internships are offered for three (3) months and are renewable for an additional three (3) months, up to a maximum of six (6) months. This internship is for a full-time placement (5 days a week).
