Established in 1951, IOM is a Related Organization of the United Nations, and as the leadingUN agency in the field of migration, works closely with governmental, intergovernmental andnon-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for thebenefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.

Context

Migrants continue to be among the most negatively impacted group, whether through increased risk of the currently prevailing COVID-19 infections, restricted or non-existent access to health services, social protection, job losses, discrimination, protracted family separation, inability to access online learning and child services or unsafe and undignified returns (UN General Assembly, 2021). Migrants and mobile populations face many obstacles in accessing essential health care services due to a number of factors including migration status, language barriers, lack of migrant-inclusive health care laws and policies, inaccessibility of services and inability of the receiving country to afford. High morbidity and mortality among migrants, especially in irregular, forced, or exploitative migration situations is also an underestimated critical health concern that deserves international attention. The aim of this document is to analyze international laws on migrants and how they are employed by East and Horn of Africa countries. Includes and analysis of the domestication of the international legal instruments (such as law, international treaties, public policies) and frameworks in the Eastern Africa legal systems in the endeavor to protect immigrants and refugees on social, labour and health basis. The copy editing and proof reading will ensure that the document message is presented in a way that it will reach the intended audience, appropriate for publication and referencing.

Task description

The IOM – Migration Health Division seeks for a motivated Online Volunteer to conduct a Copy Editing of the Legal and Policy Instruments Related to Migrants’ Access to Health Care Services and Treatment document for the East and Horn of Africa countries. The document is a 33-page document and duration of assignment is 2 weeks. The Online Volunteer will make sure that a text is readable, accurate and ready for publication. Check text to ensure it is well written and logically structured. Correct grammar and spelling. Ensure the text is in line with IOM's house style. The Online Volunteer will be responsible for the following tasks; • Correct spelling mistakes, typos and reflect appropriate usage of words with correct grammar and syntax. • Ensure consistent style and formatting throughout the document. • Ensure correct use of English while maintaining the authors’ writing style. • Ensure coherence and consistency in writing. • Ensure appropriate positioning and numbering of boxes, figures and tables. • Ensure consistent font (s) – as relevant to headings and text. • Ensure appropriate use of italicized and bolded words. • Ensure all footnotes, sources, references are complete and consistent. • Thoroughly review annexes (people consulted, bibliography, etc) as per UN publication guidelines. • Prepare a complete table of Contents and Acronyms if needed. • Proofread designed layout files to ensure completeness.
