Overview of position

Under the overall supervision of the Head of Engineering Unit and the direct supervision of the Community Mobilization Officer in Chuuk, Federated States of Micronesia, the successful candidate will be providing assistance in organizing, motivating, and mobilizing community and other stakeholders in support of all activities planned, contributing to the timely implementation of project activities in accordance with client's policies, standards, and commitments.

Role objectives
  • Support the field implementation of all project activities in accordance with the overall workplan.

  • Assist the Field Engineers (FEs) by facilitating effective communication and interaction with community members, local partners, and beneficiaries, in coordination with local/community facilitators to strengthen partnerships and cooperation to carry out reconstruction project activities in a timely manner; provide translation/interpretation, as necessary.

  • Assist the Community Mobilization Officer (CMO) in identifying community focal points and communicate with other field teams.

  • Participate in local-level communications and community engagement meetings to ensure sufficient information on project-related needs and issues.

  • Communicate to the CMO any issues or problems relative to the project implementation and suggest solutions.

  • Provides regular updates and other relevant information materials and statistics to the Project management team regarding community mobilization related activities.

  • Assist the Project team on project visibility and stakeholder engagements, when necessary.

  • Ensure required documents or information from beneficiaries are submitted and safely organized and filed in accordance with IOM policies.

  • Strictly adhere to our client's policies and procedures including prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse and promotion of a respectful work environment.

  • Undertake work related travel at the request and approval of the COM.

  • Other duties as assigned and needed to support the program objectives.

Key competencies

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in preferably in business administration, social science or any related field with three years of professional work experience; and/or Completed secondary education with five years of relevant work experience.

  • Completed secondary education with five years of relevant work experience.

EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in humanitarian activities and/or public works or community mobilization or a related area

  • Experience in community development or civic engagement is an advantage

  • Previous relevant experience in international organization or development organizations would be an advantage

  • Experience in writing reports and documents is desirable.

SKILLS

  • Understanding of local community development, trends, cultural practices traditions in an island setting

  • Skills in communication and people management

  • Excellent planning and organizational skills with ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines required.

  • Good interpersonal skills, diligence, open mindedness and dedication

  •  Strong swimming skills
