Background
The Innovative Digital Partnerships Unit within the Bureau of External Relations and Advocacy (BERA) of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is pleased to announce the creation of a new internship opportunity to support the development of crowdfunding programs in its vast network of programme countries, and also the initiatives related to the ongoing partnership with Samsung Mobile.
The offer to support UNDP country offices in developing their own digital individual giving/crowdfunding campaigns was developed in April 2020 as part of a COVID-19 crisis response mechanism to meet demand from UNDP country offices. It helps countries respond during the outbreak and recover from the pandemic's economic and social impacts in the months to come. It is one of many initiatives that mobilize the assets of UNDP, as outlined in UNDP's COVID-19 Integrated Response.
Samsung’s partnership was established in August 2019. We're halfway into our five-year partnership agreement with Samsung, which is marked by growth and deepening collaboration through the development of a successful youth empowerment initiative, #Generation17, as well as highly positive returns through the Samsung Global Goals (SGG) App. The SGG App is now installed on nearly 200 million mobile devices worldwide. The partnership has mobilized almost USD 4M through corporate and individual donations.
Duties and Responsibilities
BERA is looking for a reliable, motivated student or recent graduate to join our team in the near term who can work at least 20 hours per week for the next 8-10 weeks. Duties will include: assisting with UNDP’s Crowdfunding Academy (CFA), moderating SparkBlue channels, creating copy and visual assets for #Generation17 and the CFA, supporting as needed in the Crisis Country Office (CO) crowdfunding campaigns, and working on the 2022 content update for the Samsung Global Goals App.
The intern must be a resourceful self-starter who thrives in a rapidly evolving context and will be able to work effectively in a demanding work environment. He/she will possess excellent attention to detail, follow-through, and demonstrate advanced writing skills. Candidates with a strong interest/experience in communication and advanced communication skills in Spanish, French, and/or Korean are preferred.
This is a paid ‘virtual’ assignment, and due to COVID-19 UNDP’s standard practice of ‘hosting’ interns in our physical office is suspended temporarily.
The position will require the intern to work a minimum of 20 hours per week for 8-10 weeks.
Competencies
At a minimum, the candidate should be proficient in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. He/she ideally possesses digital media skills, including creating effective, persuasive online and social media content and visual assets on Photoshop. Fluency in English is required, and Korean, Spanish, and French are the desired language skills.
While the intern will generally adhere to the Eastern Standard workday, he/she will also be required to work across time zones globally and must be available outside of a standard 9-5 p.m. EST schedule to effectively support the work of regional bureaus and country offices.
Due to the COVID-19 restrictions in accessing IT resources, the intern must be able to provide his/her own computer for the duration of the assignment. Should the UNDP’s COVID-19 restrictions lift during the assignment, it may be possible to arrange for UNDP’s central IT department to provide a laptop for work use.
Required Skills and Experience
Undergraduate and graduate students close to their final year of study (graduating May 2022 or May 2023) are welcome to apply to postgraduate and international students.
