Office/Unit/Project Description
UNDP is the knowledge frontier organization for sustainable development in the UN Development System and serves as the integrator for collective action to realize the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). UNDP’s policy work carried out at HQ, Regional and Country Office levels, forms a contiguous spectrum of deep local knowledge to cutting-edge global perspectives and advocacy. In this context, UNDP invests in the Global Policy Network (GPN), a network of field-based and global technical expertise across a wide range of knowledge domains and in support of the signature solutions and organizational capabilities envisioned in the Strategic Plan.
Within the GPN, the Bureau for Policy and Programme Support (BPPS) has the responsibility for developing all relevant policy and guidance to support the results of UNDP’s Strategic Plan. The Crisis Bureau (CB) guides UNDP’s corporate crisis-and fragility-related strategies and vision under the auspices of UNDP’s Strategic Plan. As part of the Global Policy Network (GPN), the BPPS and CB work in an integrated manner ensuring that issues are fully integrated into UNDP’s development programmes.
In this context, the Joint Directorate for the GPN, the GPN Communications Unit provides communications support to the leadership of the Bureau for Policy and Programme Support (BPPS) and the Crisis Bureau (CB) and serves as the principal management adviser to the Directors and Deputy Bureau Directors of both Bureaux. The Bureau of External Relations and Advocacy (BERA) is responsible for positioning UNDP as the world’s leading global development network, promoting its global authority and thought leadership on sustainable development and the interconnected issues of poverty, inequality, and climate change.
Under the overall supervision of the BPPS and CB Communications Specialists, the incumbent will be responsible for helping enhance the information flow and visibility of BPPS and Crisis Bureau work on digital communications and social media platforms. More specifically, the incumbent will develop engaging and creative visual assets that can help communicate knowledge and results produced with the BPPS and Crisis Bureau portfolio umbrella to a variety of target audiences, including other development actors, everyday citizens, governments and donors.
Institutional Arrangement
The incumbent will provide critical support to the GPN Communications Team under the direct supervision of the BPPS and CB Communications Specialists.
Travel
Official travel is not envisaged for this assignment.
Duties and Responsibilities
Scope of Work
In line with the GPN communications plan for 2022, the incumbent will support in conceptualizing and developing communication products for priority milestones and themes across BPPS and CB. This includes:
- Developing digital content-driven communications campaigns that present BPPS and Crisis Bureau work in a relatable, engaging and impactful way, and that link in where relevant with UNDP global campaigns line with UNDP branding guidelines.
- Develop social media assets, including social media cards, short videos, GIFs, using video, photos, animated graphics and impactful text in collaboration with UNDP’s Digital Studio.
- Graphic design of content based on key knowledge products produced by BPPS and Crisis Bureau for digital platforms, including factsheets, brochures and snapshots for external audiences.
- Support in creating presentations, infographics and other communication materials as needed to showcase UNDP’s work under the BPPS and Crisis Bureau portfolio.
- Assist in shooting and editing short in-house social media friendly videos for digital use.
- Any other visual communications and design related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisors.
