JOB PURPOSE

 

The Shipping Consultant will report directly to a Shipping Officer in the Freight Control Unit (FCU), and to the Head of FCU as 2nd level Supervisor. The incumbent shall perform the following tasks in liaison/consultation with concerned Shipping staff.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

 

  • Co-lead review of new reporting tools, particularly of Data Lake/Foundry (DOTS), helping to validate the data architecture and data integration of existing Shipping data in this platform, producing requirements for new reports and coordinating implementation/testing of these; produce/maintain process overview documentation, updates to training/other reference materials for such tools, and   training videos (or similar content) to support training on such products.
  • In lock-step with the above, help convert/automate daily Shipping Overviews for 2 corporate emergencies (Yemen/Syria) as well as reports designed in other platforms into DOTS. Perform/lead various other reporting functions/exercises as required.
  • Working with other team members, implement functionality to consolidate FCU logbooks automatically and finalise Consignment Overview in DOTS.
  • Identify implementation steps required to improve ULISeaS outputs and Shipping DOTS reports, making them actionable by our Country Offices (COs), thus also helping to advance digitalization efforts at CO and Port Office levels.
  • Help create a KPI baseline and performance measurement system in DOTS as well as a KPI reporting regime and related methodologies for each macro-function in Shipping (Liner, Charter, Freight Control).
  • Analyse Shipping data in detail for various purposes, highlighting anomalies and recommending actions/decisions, including for:

- Reporting functions in other WFP reporting platforms;                                                                                                                                                                                                                             - ULISeaS project management support, testing, reporting and overall readiness for Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) connections;

- overall data excellence and quality assurance, particularly for timely financial closures, accuracy of freight transactions, financial soundness, swift freight payments and maintaining/ensuring adequate segregation of duties and direct oversight of FCU functions. 

  • In order to better manage all of the above, coordinate/participate in testing of various system solutions in WFP’s various corporate systems.
  • As time allows, explore integration of 'Power BI' functions with Microsoft Sharepoint solutions for Shipping (SCOS) and FCU specifically.
  • Undertake any other related tasks, as required, in particular to support HOU on FCU's various functions.

 

 

STANDARD MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

 

 

Education

 

You have a first University degree with relevant logistics qualifications and/or additional logistics experience in Supply Chain, Procurement, freight forwarding and/or shipping operations.

  • You are fluent in oral and written English and have technical writing skills;
  • Intermediate knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, French, Chinese, Russian and Spanish) or Portuguese (one of WFP’s working languages) is desirable.
