Context

In response to the conflict in Ukraine, Global Rights Compliance (GRC) and its partners will shortly be launching the Atrocity Crimes Advisory Unit (ACA) to support the investigation and prosecution of international crimes. The ACA will be comprised of a range of senior Prosecutors combined with Mobile Justice Teams (MJT) that will provide essential international and local experts to work with the Ukrainian OPG to ensure effective investigations with a view to effective national and international prosecutions.

To that end, GRC is looking to recruit a number of mid-career experts (ICL, Prosecutorial, Defence, Investigation) to support the MJTs that will work on the ground in Ukraine with the OPG. Successful candidates will be highly motivated, team players (experienced in managing an independent workload) that can work effectively in a small team capable of co-creating solutions to novel problems.

Global Rights Compliance (GRC) Foundation is a small but growing organisation of lawyers and international development practitioners working In Ukraine since 2015. We are committed to enhancing compliance with international law, particularly international humanitarian law (‘IHL’) and human rights for the purpose of confronting and mitigating acute and urgent humanitarian crises. GRC Foundation is a not-for-profit Foundation (‘Stichting’) registered in the Netherlands.

We are headquartered in The Hague with field offices in various locations around the world.

Attributes

1) Mandatory

a) 5-10 years of relevant legal and/or investigatory experience

b) Practical experience working in a national jurisdiction

c) Experience of investigations, (including supervision of investigations), or prosecutions

d) ICL / IHL experience (in a practical application, not just academic study/work)

e) Flexible, versatile and creative; able to work in an unstructured, changeable & fast-moving environment, being proactive, anticipating problems, suggesting solutions etc.

f) Not requiring detailed guidance to get started; can be given a ‘desired outcome’ and figure out the action areas required to reach it

g) Practical thinker, able to break down and pursue the elements required to operationalise a strategy

h) Administratively competent; able to manage competing urgent demands.

2) Desirable

a) Experience of working in a post-Soviet country / system

b) Able to speak Russian / Ukrainian / Polish

c) Has done military service

d) Full driving licence
