Mission and objectives

The United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) was established by Security Council resolution 2100 of 25 April 2013 to support political processes in the country and to carry out a number of security-related tasks. The Mission has been asked to support the transitional authorities of Mali in the stabilization of the country and implementation of the transitional roadmap, focusing on major population centers and lines of communication, protecting civilians, human rights monitoring, the creation of conditions for the provision of humanitarian assistance and the return of displaced persons, the extension of State authority and the preparation of free, inclusive and peaceful elections. Context

Provide timely, responsive and client-friendly support to the Political Affairs Division through the field office; Produce analytical papers in French and English, including daily and weekly situation re-ports, code cables, talking points, speeches, and background notes on the situation in Ma-li;

Task description

Under the direct supervision of the Director of Political Affairs Division, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: • Provide substantive and practical support to the Director of PAD in implementing the Division’s assignments; • Keep the Director of the Division informed on all matters requiring his personal attention, • Assist in formulating options as to how those matters might be handled, and ensure appropriate follow-up, as directed.; • prepare written summaries and conduct follow-up activities, as appropriate • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships between PAD and the Mission components, the broader UN family, the authorities and other national and international partners • Draft summary of analytical reports provided by the colleagues from the regions • Perform other relevant duties as requested by the Director
