Purpose of consultancy

To contribute to the implementation of an observational research study, entitled O2COV2 study.

Background

The mission of WHO's Health Emergencies Programme is to build the capacity of Member States to manage health emergency risks and, when national capacities are overwhelmed, to lead and coordinate the international health response to contain outbreaks and to provide effective relief and recovery to affected populations. The Clinical Management and Operations Unit coordinates the COVID-19 Clinical characterization and research workstream, that is prioritized by the WHO COVID-19 Research and Innovation Roadmap. This study is examining the use and availability of oxygen for COVID-19 in low and low-middle income countries. The study is a main activity of the WHO clinical characterization and research working group and prioritized by the WHO COVID-19 Research and Innovation Roadmap. The study launched enrollment in early 2022 and is expected to complete enrollment in September 2022.

Deliverables

  • Deliverable 1: Train between 1-3 study site investigators and data collectors on study forms.
    Expected by: On weekly basis until end of contract.
  • Deliverable 2: Train site study staff on general good data practices and good clinical practices.
    Activity 2: Support sites in conducting clinical research in accordance with skills and experience relating to the highest level of acceptable conduct of clinical research, as taught in good clinical practice trainings.
    Expected by: On weekly basis until end of contract.
  • Deliverable 3: Provide high-touch IT expertise on mobile application of REDCap and web version of REDCap. This includes immediate responding to any queries that arise from study sites via mobile chat groups (via Signal, Viber, etc), throughout the study conduct.
    Expected by: Ongoing until end of contract , estimated at minimum 20 queries a week.
  • Deliverable 4: Advise and develop material regarding documentation of study procedures, (Frequently Asked Questions by Principal Investigators, training modules, summary slide decks).
    Expected by: Estimated 6 products that would be developed within two weeks’ time from request.
  • Deliverable 5: Report daily on any queries or deviations noted in study procedures and quality research performance, such as but not limited to any procedural deviations from master protocol, adverse events of study conduct, complaints and clinical incidents.
    Expected by: Daily report expected until end of contract.

Qualifications, experience, skills and languages

Educational Qualifications:

Essential:
Advanced university degree in epidemiology, statistics, data science, or related field.

Desirable:
Advanced university degree in emergency medicine, intensive care medicine or public health.

Experience:

Essential:
At least five years of relevant work experience in data analysis and statistics, with advanced knowledge of REDCao online and mobile application for data collection and REDCap online interfaces.

Skills/Knowledge:

  • Advanced knowledge of REDCap online and mobile application for data collection, REDCap online interface.
  • Knowledge of programming languages, software development, and statistical packages and tools.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Languages required:

Essential:
Expert knowledge of English.

Desirable:
Intermediate knowledge of another UN language.

Location:

Home based – Off-site.

Travel:

Expected 4 visits to HQ, Geneva.

Remuneration:

Band level B: USD 7,000 – 9,980 per month depending on the consultant’s experience and educational background.

Living expenses (A living expense is payable to on-site consultants who are internationally recruited):

The Consultant shall be solely responsible for withholding and paying any taxes, duties, social security contributions and any other contributions which are applicable to the Consultant in in each location/jurisdiction in which the work hereunder is performed, and the Consultant shall not be entitled to any reimbursement thereof by WHO.
