Job Purpose

The Rice Breeding Platform will deliver on key priorities of the Strategic Plan in the areas of breeding for favorable environments, breeding for marginal environments, host plant resistance, quantitative genetics, seed and delivery systems, and germplasm evaluation.

This position will play a key role in gathering business requirements from various areas in multiple organizations that are part of the Enterprise Breeding System (EBS) networks and translating them into functional system design specifications that can be successfully executed by the IT development teams.

This position will be based at the IRRI Headquarters, Los Baños, Philippines and may only be filled by permanent citizens of the Philippines.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the development of the EBS System across its three main development domains: Core System, Core Breeding, and Breeding Services
  • Work closely with breeding and service team members to model the key business processes that will be supported through the EBS System and document the business process activities and workflows related to such services and products
  • Obtain information about relevant equipment and software used by breeding programs and service providers to support service management, operations such as Android applications to facilitate field sampling, full digitization of operational processes, among other activities
  • Work closely with nominated product owners and subject matter experts to capture the functional requirements for EBS products to support the business processes and prioritized workflows
  • Work closely with EBS developers and test engineers in the implementation of the EBS development process including design, sprint planning, testing, and version releases
  • Collaborate closely with other EBS Requirement Analysts and be an efficient member of the team that designs integrated tools that facilitate the completion of a breeding cycle
  • Communicate about new software features of EBS System to network members and other key stakeholders
  • Learn new or improve existing know-how such as process modeling, creation of mockups, and usability testing
  • Provide technical support and training to end-users of EBS
  • Design and prototype UIs for different integrated EBS cross-platform products, already developed and/or under development
  • Functional and system requirements of the different EBS products needed to be developed
  • Produce documentation and other materials such as reports, evaluation, workflows and table
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree, certification, or completion of equivalent education in Designing, Computer Science or related field, or a relevant combination of educational and professional experience with a minimum of 1-year experience in a similar role preferably with Non-Profit Sector and/or complex enterprise applications
Skills Required

Mandatory

  • Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle and process
  • Experience in a software design environment with methodologies such as Agile Scrum is an asset
  • Experience in building UI prototypes using tools such as Figma or equivalent tools
  • Experience with developing customer journey maps
  • Analytical mindset with problem-solving skills

Preferred

  • Experience in user-centered design methodologies, including usability testing
  • Experience in Figma, Adobe XD, JustInMind or similar designing platforms
