Organizational Setting and Work Relationships
The Registration Assistant is a member of the registration team and is supervised by a more senior colleague who normally reports directly to the Registration Officer. The incumbent is responsible for supporting all activities related to registration, which may also include functions related to reception, filing and data management. S/he responds to queries from asylum seekers and refugees regarding UNHCR's registration procedures and their rights and entitlements. The Registration Assistant liaises with protection staff and partners to ensure timely identification and referral of persons of concern for protection follow up and may provide interpretation and/or translation services in cases for which s/he has the required language competencies.

Duties
- Conduct registration interviews in accordance with local SOPs and registration standards.
- Respond to queries from asylum seekers and refugees regarding UNHCR's registration procedures and their rights and entitlements.
- Maintain accurate and up-to date records and data related to all individual registration cases.
- Identify persons with specific needs and ensure timely referral to protection follow-up as required.
- Collaborate with protection staff and/or partners in the delivery of assistance and programming, including provision of identity and entitlement documentation
- Act as interpreter and translator when needed.
- Refer cases to other units within the office and to implementing partners as necessary.
- Perform other related duties as required.

======================================================================================================== Sub-Office Kakuma covers two main areas of operation: Kakuma refugee camp and Kalobeyei integrated settlement. Kakuma refugee camp is located in the North-western region of Kenya, about 720.4 Km from Nairobi. The camp was established in 1992 following the arrival of the "Lost Boys of Sudan". During that year, large groups of Ethiopian refugees fled their country following the fall of the Ethiopian government. Somalia had also experienced high insecurity and civil strife causing people to flee. Total population of the camp is 232,486 registered refugees and asylum seekers from 22 different countries.
In Kakuma, DRS and UNHCR registration activities have been `unified¿ and are being conducted by UNHCR/RAS personnel with the technical support of UNHCR staff at different field posts. The Registration Assistant is a member of the UNHCR DIMA Unit and works with the Registration team. S/he and is normally supervised by the Associate Registration Officer. The incumbent is responsible for supporting all activities related to registration, which may also include functions related to reception, filing and data management. S/he will provide counselling to, and responds to queries from, asylum seekers and refugees regarding UNHCR's registration procedures and their rights and entitlements. S/he liaises closely with Protection staff and partners to ensure timely identification and referral of persons of concern (PoC) for Protection follow up. The Registration Assistant may assist in compiling and analysing information related to registration activities in the operation. The incumbent may provide interpretation and/or translation services in cases for which s/he has the required language competencies. S/he ensure that registration is effectively used for the identification of specific protection needs, for the management of operations, and for the achievement of durable solutions. To achieve her/his duty, the incumbent will need to build and maintain effective interfaces with communities of concern, local authorities and protection and assistance partners.
