Background

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

Part of the Strategic Partnerships Division (SPD), the Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships and Advisory Services (MPAS) Section leads UN Women’s engagement with the private sector, corporations, philanthropy, foundations, and individuals - both in terms of a substantive components and resource mobilization - and it drives a wide range of UN Women’s global initiatives: HeForShe, Women Entrepreneurship Accelerator (WEA), Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs) and Unstereotype Alliance (UA). It also leads the work with all UN Women National Committees, and on the development of the individual/digital giving as well as Advisory Services business line for private sector. MPAS’ main aims are to ensure that UN Women develops and sustains high quality and impact focused partnerships to achieve maximum results for gender equality and women’s empowerment.

Under direct supervision of the Partnerships Specialist, the CRM Business Analysis Intern will provide support to the Private Sector Partnerships team in managing the efficient flow of information and communications about current and potential partners of UN Women via our Customer relationship management (CRM) tool, Salesforce.

Duties and Responsibilities

The roles and responsibilities of the CRM Business Analysis Intern are:

  •  The investigation, analysis, review, and documentation of the partnership’s lifecycle in terms of business functions and processes, the information used and the data on which the information is based.
  • The definition of requirements for improving each process along the partnership lifecycle and recording information effectively and efficiently in our CRM, including ensuring the integration with private sector partnership development and Due Diligence/Intelligence processes and records
  • The identification of new and alternative approaches to performing business activities in the system and beyond
  • The analysis of these processes, including recognition of the potential for automation of the processes, assessment of the costs and potential benefits of the new approaches considered and, where appropriate, management of change, and assistance with implementation.
  •  The specification of partner requirements to a level that enables effective delivery of partnerships team results and outcomes
  • The development of simple training and reference materials that can be utilized to grow the number of users in a sustainable and coherent manner.

Learning objectives for the internship in this area:

  • The selected intern will get “hands on” experience developing and managing partnerships primarily with the private sector
  • The selected intern will learn how to develop concept notes, briefing paper and programme documents for partners and liaise closely with colleagues from numerous country offices as well as sister UN agencies working on CRM implementation
  • The selected intern will also have the opportunity to work in a multi-disciplinary team that will provide exposure to all four of UN Women’s thematic focus areas: governance and participation in public life; women’s economic empowerment; ending violence against women and girls; and women, peace and security, humanitarian action, and disaster risk reduction

Functional Competencies:

  • Strong academic background in management information systems, computer science or another relevant field
  • Practical experience in use of CRM software – ideally Salesforce – is required

Required Skills and Experience

Qualifications

Education:

  • University studies in one of the following disciplines: computer science, information systems, business, mathematics, statistics or other relevant subjects is required.
  • Meet one of the following:
    1. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
    2. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent);
    3. Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation; or
    4. Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program which is part of a degree programme and undertake the internship as part of the program requirements.

Language:

  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in English are required;
  • Working knowledge of another UN language is an advantage.

Renumeration:

Interns who are not in receipt of financial support from other sources such as universities or other institutions will receive a stipend from UN Women to partially subsidize their basic living costs for the duration of the internship.
