Job Description
Gavi’s 2021-2025 strategy strives to ensure that the value of vaccines is well recognised and that immunisation remains a priority at all levels. The Public Policy Engagement (PPE) team serves as the political affairs, advocacy and advisory unit on issues related to vaccine equity for the Gavi Secretariat and COVAX Facility, managing institutional engagements and advocacy at multilateral fora, with the UN system, partner networks, civil society, policy and research institutions.  

The Public Policy Intern will work with the Public Policy Engagement (PPE) team to implement the advocacy and public policy strategy in line with the organisation’s mission. 
         
Main Duties/Responsibilities
•    Review, analyse, consequential thinking of Global and Regional public policy instruments and landscape to identify advantageous entry points for zero dose children, routine immunisation, primary healthcare and universal health coverage (UHC);
•    Document and analyse emerging areas in health policy landscape and linkages to SGDs, Agenda 2030, Agenda 2063 and other cross-cutting areas (e.g. gender, WASH, nutrition, education etc);
•    Assist with writing quality policy reports, briefings, policy briefs;
•    Work independently and as part of the Public Policy Engagement (PPE) team on special non-recurring and on-going projects, which may include planning and coordinating events or multiple presentations and disseminating information;
•    Coordinating internal and external discussions/meetings as needed, taking meeting notes and responsible for coordinating follow-up on action points;
•    Identify, document and propose stakeholders (government officials, influencers, academic, research organisations, networks and alliances) to be mobilised for Gavi’s advocacy and public policy strategy;
•    Support relevant stakeholder coordination and management within the advocacy and immunisation political will building strategy;
•    Contribute to organisation of relevant public policy meetings, events, forums;
•    Support the development of advocacy and public policy documents: presentations, reporting, policy positions, datasets, factsheets.

Work Experience Skills/Competencies
●    Exceptional research, qualitative, social data and document review skills;
●    Experience or interest in health and/or political advocacy;
●    Experience of working in a low-income country setting and/or working in a multi-cultural context;
●    Excellent analytical, critical reasoning skills and ability to make logical or implied connections between policy themes, agendas and priorities;
●    Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication, presentation, negotiation, and advocacy skills;
●    Ability to work effective within a team;
●    Ability to take initiative in the absence of specific instructions, and to work effectively and efficiently with minimal supervision, and within fast-paced environment while producing quality. 
 
Languages
•    Fluency in English; French and/or Portuguese are desirable;
•    Fluency in other languages considered an asset.
Academic Qualifications
•    Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in social sciences, public health/development, international affairs, public policy or related fields;
•    Candidates with experience in international health, international affairs, international development, public policy or the health sector are encouraged to apply.
