Organizational Setting

FAO Azerbaijan office is implementing “Integrating pollinators into Sustainable Forest Management Plans” project that will support one of the priority areas of Azerbaijan's National Forestry Program and its Action Plan (2020-2030) for the sustainable development of forests in the country. The project targets to develop the country's capacity and knowledge to integrate pollinator biodiversity into sustainable forest management plans.

Technical Focus

Under the overall administrative and operational supervision of the FAO Representative in Azerbaijan (FAO-AZE), direct technical supervision of the Forestry Officer at FAO Sub-regional Office for Central Asia (FAO-SEC) and in close collaboration with the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources (MENR) of Azerbaijan, the consultant will lead and methodologically guide national consultants in the development of comprehensive pollinator and forest resources datasets; and in developing methodologies for the effective management of forest habitats for honeybees and wild pollinators (to be integrated into multifunctional forest management (MFMP) planning). The consultant will also be responsible for improving technical capacity and promoting awareness of the value and importance of sustainable use and conservation of pollinators at local and national levels. The consultant will provide the following support to the project:

Tasks and responsibilities:

Develop a set of standardised protocols to assess benefits linked to pollinators in forested landscapes for multiple groups;

• Provide methodological guidance and support to the national beekeeping expert in developing a crop database and a simple tool for assessing the economic value of pollinators;

• Lead the process and support the national beekeeping expert in the development of the bee plant inventory;

• Develop training materials outlining the variety of goods and services which pollinators can provide;

• Lead the process and provide support to the national forest management expert in conducting training on the use of the updated “Guidelines for preparing MFMP for sustainable forest management in Azerbaijan”;

• Lead the process and support the national consultants on the development of a methodology and guidance for engaging local beekeepers, farmers, and non-wood forest products collectors (NWFP), in formulation of the MFMPs;

• Provide methodological guidance and support to the national beekeeping expert to compile of an inventory of good practices;

• Lead the process and support the national beekeeping expert in collecting and analysing the new updated data on ‘bee plants’ and habitats, and beekeeper and NWFP collector needs;

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements:

  • University degree in apiculture, forestry, natural resources management, sustainable agriculture or a related discipline.
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in fields related to the subject of the assignment;
  • Working knowledge (level C) of English and limited knowledge (level B) of one of other FAO languages. Working knowledge of English for PSA.SBS.
