Organizational Setting

The Office of Communications (OCC) is responsible for all corporate and internal communication activities of the Organization. It ensures coherence and consistency in FAO’s corporate messaging and communications outputs and enables cost-effectiveness in use of communication-related resources across the Organization. The Publications group (OCCP) is the OCC branch responsible for the production, quality control and dissemination of FAO’s publications.

Reporting Lines

The Consultant/PSA will report directly to the Communications Officer (Knowledge Services Coordinator), under the overall authority of the Chief of OCCP.

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Act as focal point for curating and enhancing the metadata of publications in the FAO Knowledge Repository, ensuring that the most important fields are accurate and that old records are mapped to new metadata standards.
  • Manage requests for bulk upload of publications, guiding the originating unit/office in the preparation of import procedure, reviewing the documents and mapping the fields to the Knowledge Repository.
  • Participate in the collation of publications-related performance metrics and contribute to quarterly reporting on impact of publications;
  • Participate in the management of the FAO Document Repository;
  • Contribute to recommendations to improve quality control criteria, in line with corporate policies, with a view of promoting more effective and efficient digital publishing processes;
  • Support the team in other related tasks.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

  • Advanced university degree (for Consultants) / University degree (only for PSA) in publishing, journalism, library studies, communications, international relations or a related field
  • At least three years of relevant experience in the field of publishing, communication, knowledge management, digital repositories
  • Working knowledge (level C) of English, French or Spanish and limited knowledge (level B) of one of the other two or Arabic, Chinese, Russian. For PSA, knowledge of one FAO language is required.

  • Experience using publishing workflow systems and digital repositories
  • Experience with metadata standards

  • Familiarity with other UN agencies or other major international organizations will be considered an asset
