Mō te tūnga | About the role

In this role you will be supporting our tāngata (the people we support) in long term residential accommodation. Our tāngata are usually over the age of 16, have an intellectual disability and are unable to be supported in their own home. They lead busy, active lives which may include attending day services classes, formal functions, gym classes, swimming and visiting whanau.

Depending on which Whare you join, you could also be supporting in RIDSAS which is a highly specialised service providing support for intellectually disabled people who have high and complex needs. Here, there is a priority focus on lifestyle and rehabilitation programmes.

You will be joining a supportive, professional and diverse team who make a significant impact on the quality of life for our tāngata. The team work with kindness and respect where great emphasis is placed on effective communication and support amongst our team, they truly understand the benefit of a ‘community’ of care.

We have full time and part time positions available working to a 24/7 roster. Tell us what suits you and what you are looking for and let’s see if we can make it work. We have vacancies in Mangere, Papatoetoe, Takanini and Penrose.

Your skills will include:

  • Working with diversity
  • Providing comfort and care
  • A wide range of communications skills
  • The ability to provide and receive respect
  • The ability to set goals and work towards them
  • An understanding of disabilities and assessing of abilities (advantageous)
  • Prior experience with manual hoist/support of high wheel chair users (advantageous)

A reasonably good level of physical fitness is required as is a full NZ driver license.
