Mission and objectives
The UN-Habitat’s vision of “a better quality of life for all in an urbanizing world” is bold and ambitious. UN-Habitat works with partners to build inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable cities and communities. UN-Habitat promotes urbanization as a positive transformative force for people and communities, reducing inequality, discrimination and poverty. UN-Habitat works in over 90 countries to promote transformative change in cities and human settlements through knowledge, policy advice, technical assistance and collaborative action. UN-Habitat’s new strategic plan 2020-2023 adopts a more strategic and integrated approach to solving the challenges and opportunities of twenty-first century cities and other human settlements.
Context
UN-Habitat as a part of United Nations, UNCT Viet Nam has been delcared Sustainable Development Country Framework. As a part of this, UN-Habitat Viet Nam office would like to expand the scope of the intervention in Viet Nam. UN-Habitat Office in Viet Nam has strong reputation on urban planning and development for urban and human settlement sustainable development. The office has successfully developed and implemented several projects in Viet Nam. Currently, Viet Nam Office are implementing three main projects related to 1) capacity building with urban excellency, 2) climate change adaptation in costal human settlements and 3) creative city for Ha Noi. Viet Nam office would like to expand the scope of the work according to UNSDCF and UN volunteer will support monitoring and evaluation of the project implementation under supervision of Habitat Programme Manager and assist new project development for green transport and urban development in Viet Nam. UN-Habitat Viet Nam Country Programme has been developed based on UH-Habitat strategic plan for 2020 and 2023, and duration of this plan would be extended to up to 2025. Focused areas for Viet Nam office would be 1) Green Transportation and smart urban development and 2) climate change adaptation and mitigation for coastal region, and 3) smart and inclusive public space and creative city. For developing new projects under those themes, UN Volunteer will research and analyze international experience and knowledge, and support to develop new framework with Viet Nam national and city governments.
Task description
Under the direct supervision of Habitat Programme Manager, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: 1. Assists programme development related to urban planning and development as part of Viet Nam Country Programme Management 2. Supports current project implementation with sharing knowledge and experience 3. Contributes to UN-Habitat country programme management and development 4. Support the development of cooperation mechanism with national and city governments 5. Assist the project development and implementation with analysis skills and international knowledge
