Your team

Within the Directorate European Civil-Military Aviation , the EUROCONTROL Innovation Hub (EIH) carries out research, innovation and simulation activities to help improve European aviation performance, safety and sustainability, bridging the gap between R&D and operations. The EIH also addresses emerging new technologies as well as deployment of drones and urban air mobility systems.       

Your role

Your role will be to:

• Perform safety assessments of the Single European Sky ATM Research Programme (SESAR) Solutions in the areas of Airport, ATS (En-route/TMA), Network operations and UAS/U-space.
• Prepare and present safety related subjects (e.g. safety case reports) to various (internal/external) audiences.
• Contribute to the specification and development of tools supporting the safety assessment of new technologies and concepts (e.g. AI, UAS) that will assist new airspace users.
• Support the development and improvement of integrated risk models and associated tools.
• Develop training material, guidelines, templates, etc. and participate in the delivery of safety related training.
• Carry out any other task in line with the main purpose of the job.

Required qualifications, experience & competencies

• Complete university studies of at least 4 years in a relevant domain.
• Minimum of 2 years of relevant working experience as safety practitioner in European ATM.
• Experience in the following areas would be considered a valuable asset:
  • SESAR Operational Concepts and Programme organisation
  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Data analysis
  • Pilot (PPL)
• Understanding of safety tools and risk modelling.
• Understanding of ATM and its evolution (digitalisation, virtualisation, etc.).
• Understanding of safety assessment and safety management practices in European ATM.
  An understanding of the SESAR Safety Reference Material methodology would be a strong asset.
• Understanding of the EU and EASA related ATM/ANS Regulation including (EU) No 2017/373.
• (Technical) drafting and presentation skills in English.
• Planning & Organising: You know how to plan ahead and adapt as required.
• Communication: You are able to foster two-way communication.
• Analytical thinking: You analyse information and are able to identify relationships.
• Team work: You foster team work.
• Customer focus: You adapt services to respond to customer needs.

• The working languages of the Agency are English and French. For this particular job, candidates must be proficient users of English at level C1 and acquire, at least, a basic knowledge of French at level A1 by the end of the probation period. 
  The levels relate to the Common European Framework of References for languages (CEFR).

• The selected candidate will be offered a contract of 3 Year (s) pursuant to the provisions of the Conditions of Employment of Contract Staff at EUROCONTROL. The contract may be renewed. Before being established in the post, he/she will be requested to provide certified copies of his/her degrees and successfully serve a probationary period of 9 months.
• The successful candidate shall be engaged in principle at the basic grade of the advertised grades.
• In case of reserve list: Suitable candidates, however not selected to fill the post, will be placed on a reserve list for similar functions. The period of validity of reserve list is 1 year from the closing date of applications.
