Organizational Setting
These positions are located in FAO project offices in various districts of Sindh province, Pakistan, as per the needs of the project, and will be working in association with the main project office in Karachi, Pakistan.
Districts: Mirpurkhas and Tharparkar
The main aim of the FAO country offices, which are headed by an FAO Representative, is to assist governments to develop policies, programmes and projects to achieve food security and to reduce hunger and malnutrition, to help develop the agricultural, fisheries and forestry sectors and to use their environmental and natural resources in a sustainable manner.
Reporting Lines
Under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Pakistan and Provincial International Program Coordinator, these positions will be directly supervised by the GRASP Project Coordinator, and work closely with the sector specialists on the FAO Sindh team for horticulture and livestock value chain development.
Technical Focus
• Facilitate the development of agri-business plans for select value chains of commodities supported by the project, through support for community organizations, producer marketing groups and other types of MSMEs established.
• Ensure that Farmer Business Climate School (FCBS) are supported with appropriate technical information to maximise the chance to establish commercial opportunities for their products, horticultural or livestock-related.
Tasks and responsibilities
• Lead the work of the staff in the districts in terms of attendance, work planning, implementation, logistics HR and other management related tasks.
• Assist the Project Coordinator to liaise with district government officials to ensure smooth implementation of the project.
• Lead the team of district Agri-business Value Chain Facilitators in collecting and preparing background information on value chains, agribusiness and market development issues; provide appropriate field guidance and local knowledge support to project coordinator and other consultants.
• Liaison in between districts teams and the subject matter experts and specialist staff on the project, including those supplying expertise on livestock, horticulture, market development, climate smart technologies and gender, as well as acting as implementation partner
• Prepare district work plans on economic viable value chains and agribusiness in collaboration with the Project Coordinator and other staff, and supervise the facilitation and implementation of activities at field and value chain level.
• Work closely with the project groups established and supported including community organizations, producer marketing groups to produce value chain and agri-business plans that are likely to result into positive income growth.
• In collaboration with district staff and other relevant partners undertake detailed value chain, market analyses (including SWOT, Constraints, Needs and Gap analysis)
• Day to day operational and financial activities and managing the FAO district team and Office
• Prepare and submit monthly work plan and progress reports;
• Perform any other associated duties as required by the Project Coordinator
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements
• Master’s degree in agri-business, agronomy/horticulture, livestock management, or agriculture related degree.
• 5 years’ experience within agricultural, livestock or horticultural sector, especially marketing aspects, preferably with the private sector.
• Working knowledge of English and fluency in Sindhi. Knowledge of other languages used in Sindh province is an asset.
