Expected duration• The duration of the consultancy is 11 months with possibility of extension subject to availability of funds;
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the guidance and supervision of the Head Field Legal Office, the Legal Consultant will be responsible for the following duties:
• Provision of legal advice and assistance and drafting of documents in relation to:
i) Administrative and employment law and other matters relating to Agency personnel in Jordan, in particular disciplinary cases and staff grievances;
ii) Status, mandate, and privileges and immunities of the Agency and its personnel in Jordan;
iii) Claims made against the Agency and its staff members in their official capacity;
iv) Legal aspects of protection issues relating to Palestine refugees in Jordan;
v) Interpretation and application of UNRWA regulatory framework;
• Drafting, review and negotiation of various contractual modalities, including contribution agreements, contracts for procurement of goods and services, lease agreements, memorandums of understanding, etc.;
• Legal research, analysis and advice on matters related to UNRWA operations in Jordan;
• Drafting legal opinions and official correspondence on any such matters;
• Such other duties as may be assigned by the Head Field Legal Office.
• Master of Laws, JD or LLM from an accredited educational institution;
• At least three years of progressively responsible legal experience in a national or international organization, of which at least one year outside the candidate’s home country or a country in which the candidate has permanent residence.
• Familiarity with international law, humanitarian law, contracts and commercial law, administrative law;
• Excellent command of written and spoken English.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
• Bar admission;
• Knowledge of contemporary issues in the Middle East;
• Familiarity with the UN system and practices.
