POSITION SUMMARY
The Prospect Park Zoo is hiring an Adjunct Conservation Educator to coordinate and lead birthday parties. This is a unique opportunity to explore education at an informal science institution. You will work part-time in the WCS Education Department. You will report to work on-site at the Prospect Park Zoo; this is not a remote work opportunity. Together with staff, you will teach exciting science content, welcome campers with diverse interests, abilities, and backgrounds, and maintain a lively learning environment. You will have the opportunity to learn about different teaching styles and methods, facilitate fun activities, and utilize restorative practices in group management.

The WCS Education Department works across our Zoos & Aquarium. We inspire a diverse and inclusive movement of conservation advocates by sparking connections with animals and nature, improving scientific literacy through hands-on investigation, and engaging constituents in stewardship and action to conserve wildlife and wild places.
RESPONSIBILITIES
As an Adjunct Conservation Educator (ACE) you will:
● Work on-site at the Prospect Park Zoo. This is not a remote work opportunity.
● Follow and reinforce WCS COVID-19 Safety Procedures, including wearing masks and regular sanitizing.
● Foster an inclusive learning environment for all visitors
● Learn and utilize restorative justice practices to create a supportive camp environment and cohesive camp community
● Attend and succeed in tractable animal training and be able to present ambassador
● animals during relevant programs.
● Coordinate B-Day parties through email and phone calls
● Lead Birthday parties that are fun and engaging while also having educational value
● Supervise and interact with children ranging in age from 4-17 years-old
● Maintain a fun and lively learning environment
● Prepare and organize materials for programs as necessary
● Inspire learners from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds with a love of wildlife and science
● Assist with the supervision, oversight, and mentoring of Counselor-in-Training (CIT) Interns
● Participate in training before the start of camp and throughout the summer
● Attend regular meetings
