Our team and mission

The Industrial Policy and Auditing Department is responsible for fostering the relations between industry and the Agency, for elaborating and implementing the Agency’s industrial policy, for defining and implementing the geographical return and industrial audit policies, for working closely with Member States on the achievement of their industrial policy goals and for supporting the successful accession of new Member and Cooperating States.

 

The Industrial Audit Services Office is in charge of defining overall policies for cost audits; negotiating industrial hourly labour rates and overheads; auditing direct expenditure on cost reimbursement contracts and co-funded contracts and coordinating audit activities with relevant national authorities where applicable. It conducts audits of companies in order to ascertain the correctness of data entries in the ESA geo-return databases and the financial viability of contractors. 

 

We are a team of (13) driven professionals located in 3 different ESA establishments (mainly ESTEC) that perform a wide range of audits to the Industrial Partners working with ESA, but also provide consulting services including assisting in price negotiations, reviewing financial proposals, business plans, etc.

Field(s) of activity for the internship

Topic: Benchmark analysis on remuneration in ESA Member and Cooperating States

 

As an intern you will support the Industrial Audit Services Office and contribute to assessing the reasonability of remuneration of industry as part of the rates audits and supporting the work of the office. You will report to the Head of the Office and deliver a benchmark comparison on salaries and remuneration packages among space industry in the different ESA Member States.
 


Your duties will comprise:

  • reviewing and understanding the levels and differences in labour costs across ESA Member and Cooperating States within the Aerospace sector (and other related sectors where aerospace is too limiting)
  • understanding the structuring and composition of labour costs, including statutory requirements
  • setting up a comparing database for ESA Member and Cooperating States

Education

You must have student status and be enrolled at university for the entire duration of the internship. You should preferably be in your final or second to last year of a university course at master’s level in a technical or scientific discipline.

Additional requirements

The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset.

 

Educational knowledge: Knowledge and background in the area of economy, cost, accounting and/or statistic is required.
