BACKGROUND: Founded in 1933, the International Rescue Committee is a leading, non-sectarian, non-profit organization providing emergency relief, protection, rehabilitation assistance, resettlement services, and advocacy for refugees and victims of oppression or violent conflict.  Domestically, our 22 offices across the U.S. ensure new arrivals have food, shelter, and clothing, and work with refugees to help them gain self-sufficiency.

SCOPE OF WORK: Our resource development department is responsible for community development, outreach, in-kind donation coordination, and volunteer management. The intern will assist resource development staff with various responsibilities relating to community engagement, partnership building, event planning, volunteer recruitment and management, and handling in-kind donations. Our department’s goal is to strategically work alongside our community to expand the quantity and quality of resources and services we provide to our clients.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

             Attend Volunteer/Intern Orientation and assist with conducting orientations as needed

             Assist with processing, tracking, organization, and distribution of in-kind donations, including on-going management of the IRC’s “Resettlement Store”

             Assistance with tracking and recording volunteer service hours

             Planning and executing special events including intern/staff mixer(s)

             Support community engagement efforts which may potentially include contributing to the monthly newsletter, researching and conducting outreach to prospective partner organizations, representing IRC Richmond at community events, community asset mapping, and more

             Provide timely, accurate, and clear communication to volunteers via email and phone

             Record hours and submit completed timesheet for each month via the IRC’s online Volunteer Dashboard.
