Overview & Responsibilities
BACKGROUND
The Judiciary’s Directorate of Public Affairs and Communication (DPAC) is responsible for managing the Judiciary’s internal and external communications. Its functions include: (i) Conceiving and implementing strategies that enhance stakeholder and public confidence in the Judiciary; (ii) Using media and other channels to promote a positive image of the Judiciary; (iii) Developing and implementing a structured institutional communication strategy; and (iv) Promoting stakeholder dialogue, collaboration, and partnerships. To fulfil its mandate, DPAC oversees the implementation of the Judiciary’s Communication Strategy, which aims to increase transparency, promote information sharing, and improve the public’s confidence in the Judiciary processes. DPAC is currently working towards aligning the Judiciary’s communication to the Chief Justice’s vision of “ Social Transformation through Access to Justice” to effectively coordinate, harvest, and disseminate the results of the social transformation process in a structured public information system.
In this regard, DPAC has partnered with IDLO to hold a workshop on crisis communication to equip DPAC staff with relevant information on preparedness for crisis events, crisis communication planning, and response.
THE ASSIGNMENT
IDLO, in partnership with DPAC, seeks to engage facilitators and rapporteurs for the DPAC Workshop on Crisis Communication scheduled from 13th to 18th November 2022 in Mombasa.
The duties and responsibilities of the Facilitators will be:
- Review documents relevant to the workshop, including the concept note, program, and literature relevant to the thematic topics as assigned.
- Develop comprehensive PowerPoint presentations on the thematic topics assigned.
- Deliver the presentations during the DPAC workshop on Crisis Communication from 13th to 18th November 2022 in Mombasa, using appropriate presentation tools.
- Guide the discussion on the presentations made to draw feedback from the participants, and develop the feedback report to be submitted to DPAC and IDLO.
The duties and responsibilities of the Rapporteurs will be:
- Review documents relevant to the workshop, including the concept note, presentations, and program, ahead of the workshop.
- Attend and record all proceedings and presentations made during the DPAC workshop.
- Collate all the presentations made during the workshop, and compile a draft workshop report for submission to DPAC and IDLO, including annexures.
- Finalize and submit a comprehensive workshop report incorporating the feedback received from DPAC and IDLO.
DELIVERABLES
The deliverables of the Facilitators will be:
- Comprehensive PowerPoint presentations on the thematic topics assigned.
- Delivery of the presentation during the DPAC workshop on Crisis Communication from 13th to 18th November 2022 in Mombasa.
- A consolidated feedback report on the thematic topic assigned.
The deliverables of the Rapporteurs will be:
- Recordings of all proceedings, presentations, feedback reports, and resource materials used during the workshop.
- Comprehensive workshop report for review by DPAC and IDLO.
- Final workshop report incorporating feedback from DPAC and IDLO.
Job Requirements
IDEAL CANDIDATES’ PROFILES
The Facilitators should have the following skills, qualifications, and experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Information Communication, Technology, Law, or related discipline from a university recognised in Kenya.
- A master’s degree in any of the above fields is an added advantage.
- A minimum of 7 -10 years of professional experience in communications.
- Knowledge of the Judiciary’s communication context, needs, and emerging issues.
- Skills and experience delivering on similar assignments, especially for state institutions.
- Excellent organisational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
The Rapporteur should have the following skills, qualifications, and experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Information Communication, Technology, Law, or related discipline from a university recognised in Kenya.
- Exceptional report writing and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated skills and experience delivering on similar assignments.
- Excellent organisational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
Terms & Conditions
The contracts for the facilitators and rapporteurs will run for two weeks, from the 14th to the 27th of November 2022.
