Description

AIV Engineer (Assembly, Integration and Verification Engineer) in the Test Support Section.
Our Section belongs to the Test Centre Division and is part of the Mechanical Department in the Directorate of Technology, Engineering and Quality (TEC).

 

The core task of the Section is to provide functional support to ESA projects in the AIV, AIT and programmatic domains, focusing in particular on environmental tests and launch campaign preparation and execution. The Section is requested to provide expert technical support to projects run by most ESA directorates: TEC, EOP, SCI, HRE, NAV, TIA, OPS and STS. 
Support for Concurrent Design Facility (CDF) studies and technological R&D in the AIV/AIT domain will also be requested as ancillary assignments.

Duties

Reporting to the TEC-MXC Head of Section within the technical fields described above, your main tasks and responsibilities will include: 

 

•    providing expert technical support and consultancy to ESA projects, programmes and general studies in the AIV, AIT and programmatic domains, throughout all project phases;
•    defining and consolidating consistent requirements related to the satellite AIV/AIT phase, following up their implementation and flow-down to system, subsystem and equipment levels;
•    supporting the definition and implementation of a satellite AIV programme which meets technical and programmatic requirements and considers the adequacy of model philosophy, integration and test facilities, planning and costing; 
•    supporting the definition of satellite development and verification, identifying potential issues and proactively contributing to their resolution;
•    proactively monitoring satellite AIT activities and industrial procurement activities related to spacecraft and the associated ground support equipment within the assigned project(s), ensuring suitable planning and progress of work in compliance with technical and programmatic requirements;
•    supporting the preparation, organisation and execution of environmental test campaigns, in particular with respect to mechanical, thermal and electromagnetic testing of satellite systems/subsystems;
•    supporting launch campaign preparation activities and launch campaign execution;
•    supporting feasibility studies for new missions in the CDF at ESTEC;
•    supporting project reviews and the evaluation of procurement proposals;
•    participating in the development of engineering standards;
•    defining and managing R&D activities covering both short-term and long-term needs;
•    contributing to the definition of technology development plans for the Agency’s technology programmes;
•    monitoring relevant scientific and technological trends and maintaining state-of-the-art expertise;
•    contributing to the dissemination of the results of the activities performed and the transfer of knowledge across the Agency.

 

Your duties may also include supporting other activities within your field of competence.
Frequent international travel may also be required.

Technical competencies

General background and specific experience in the technical domains covered by the position

Education

A master’s degree in aerospace engineering or a relevant engineering discipline is required.

Additional requirements

•    Solid experience in satellite AIV and environmental verification testing is required: active participation in at least one full satellite test campaign (vibration, acoustic, shock, thermal vacuum, EMC) is considered mandatory, while support for launch campaigns in an AIT/AIV role would be considered an asset.


•    Basic knowledge of other engineering areas would be considered an asset.

The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset.
