Organizational Setting

The Internship Programme and the Enhanced Internship Programme (EIP) offer a learning experience of six months to recent university graduates or students who are specializing in areas of work relevant to IFAD’s mission.

Candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • be enrolled in a university or graduate school, have attended courses in the last 12 months, and have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies when joining IFAD through the programme or;
  • have recently completed university studies at the undergraduate or postgraduate level;
  • be fluent in English; fluency in other IFAD official languages is an asset. In the case of interns recruited in IFAD country office locations, fluency in the main country language may beS required;
  • be 30 years of age or younger.
  • The EIP, in particular, is designed to enhance geographic distribution of staff at IFAD and is open to candidates who meet the above eligibility criteria and who are not based in Rome. In addition to a monthly allowance, EIP interns receive a housing and travel allowance.

Salary:

  • 800 USD/month Internship Programme

  • 1,209.60 USD/month Enhanced Internship Programme

Key Performance Indicators

At the end of his internship, the intern will have acquired a good knowledge of IFAD, with a specific focus on the Fund’s work on Gender and Social Inclusion. The following outputs are expected:

  • Good practices documented
  • Inputs provided for IFAD’s Gender and Social Inclusion Network, Roster and  Knowledge Database
  • Error messages on the mailing lists cleaned
  • Contribution provided to the graphic design of the IFAD Gender Newsletter
  • Support provided in the organization of knowledge events and capacity building activities
  • At least 3 blog post written
  • Contacts of IFAD’s gender network and consultants list updated
  • Meetings, seminars and workshops organized at headquarters attended
  • Support to the provided to the ongoing activities of the Unit

Job Profile Requirements

The Strategy and Knowledge Department (SKD) provides expert guidance on IFAD's strategic direction, thematic priorities and technical quality of IFAD’s operations. It plays a critical role in providing technical expertise to operational teams to enhance development effectiveness, by generating and disseminating IFAD’s development knowledge and evidence on strategic themes, and encouraging innovative application of cutting-edge global knowledge and evidence in IFAD investments to support countries tackles their most complex development challenges in fostering inclusive and sustainable rural transformation. Within SKD, the Environment, Climate, Gender and Social Inclusion Division (ECG) takes the lead in mainstreaming cross-cutting themes of environment and climate, nutrition, gender, youth, and indigenous peoples and all related aspects of social inclusion into IFAD's portfolio. The Social Inclusion Cluster in ECG spearheads IFAD's implementation of its social inclusion agenda including, poverty analysis and targeting, gender equity, youth, nutrition and indigenous peoples. Within this cluster the Gender Team provides demand-led technical advisory services, supports learning, knowledge management and scaling-up efforts, operational policy development, capacity-building and coordination of selected partnerships at country, regional and global levels on gender equality, women’s empowerment and social inclusion. It also ensures IFAD’s compliance with the Gender and Targeting Policies, and the disability strategy and work to guide the organizations towards their operationalization. It also pursues a new transformation agenda that seeks to integrate these IFAD’s four themes (gender, youth, nutrition and environment and climate) for enhanced results.

Expected Activities:

  • Support the Gender and Social Inclusion Unit in its knowledge management activities, including:
    • Contribute to the organization of corporate and thematic events and related campaigns, including: International Women’s Day; CSW; and other initiatives;
    • Support the organization of the Learning Route on Gender Transformative Approaches that will take place in Malawi;
    • Contribute to the documentation of good practices, evidence-data and lessons from the field if required
    • Update of the IFAD Gender Network and revision of its mailing lists
    • Prepare knowledge products (newsletter, case studies, blog stories, etc.) as needed
    • Support the identification of new Project Gender Focal Points and revision of the existing mailing lists
    • Collect statistics and key information related to gender and social inclusion for selected countries and regions
    • Scout for interesting stories and best practices from IFAD-supported projects
    • Act as social reporter when needed (e.g. 16-day campaign against gender-based violence)
    • Contribute to the creation of web contents
    • Contribute to the dissemination of gender-related knowledge products
  • Support the Gender and Social Inclusion Unit in its capacity building activities, including:
    • Organisation of capacity building activities
    • Keeping the contact list of IFAD’s gender network (especially at project level) up to date
    • Keeping the list of gender and social inclusion consultants and its roster up to date
  • Contribute to other activities of the Gender and Social Unit as and when required;
