Objective

The ILO Decent Work Team in Bangkok (ENTERPRISES) is now seeking an intern who will assist ILO Enterprise Development Specialist and Officer in Bangkok to advance enterprise and youth development in Asia and the Pacific.

Background

The ILO Decent Work Team in Bangkok (ENTERPRISES) promotes development of sustainable enterprises in Asia and the Pacific, working with the governments, employers’ and workers’ organizations as well as other social partners such as UN agencies, academic institutions, NGOs, cooperatives, and associations.

As a part of the enterprise development support, Building Youth Capacity and Network in Asia Pacific project (AP Network project) aims to empower 50,000 youth and vulnerable people using sustainable, scalable and impactful training tools for youth and vulnerable people in Bangladesh, Cambodia, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Philippines, and Thailand, with financial support from the Government of Japan. The project uses the ILO’s activity-based learning tools (ABL), which are scalable, sustainable, and more impactful. Unlike traditional, expert-led trainings, ABL is a participant-driven training. Participants can follow the easy instructions written on modules to pursue the training. The realistic problems and scenarios in the learning modules enable students to improve their problem-solving ability and creativity, while also making the learning material feel more relevant.

The intern will work with ILO Enterprise Specialist and Officer to advance general work associated with enterprise development and promote the ABL tools in the target countries and connect development partners to facilitate a network of youth participants, development practitioners and other project stakeholders.

Scope of work

The intern will be based in Bangkok, Thailand to carry out the following tasks under the supervision of the ILO Enterprise Specialist and Officer in Bangkok.

1)    Support general enterprise development work:
The intern will generally support the Decent Work Team’s enterprise portfolio. Such support will include but not be limited to drafting parts of reports, attending workshops and taking notes, conducting desk research, arranging meetings, and collecting data.

2)    Webinar coordination:
The AP Network project organizes monthly webinars with ILO colleagues, development partners and various other stakeholders. The intern will assist coordination of those webinars by setting up preparatory meetings, drafting programme and event notes, and managing IT functions during the webinars.

3)    Assist implementation of ABL trainings:
Development partners, namely AIESEC, Impact Hub and JILAF are conducting ABL trainings in the five target countries. The partners occasionally ask ILO for technical support such as translation of modules, clarifying definitions, arranging training approach, and so on. The intern will support those partners with guidance from the ILO Enterprises Officer.

Qualifications

The intern should:
-    Be enrolled in the final year of a postgraduate degree programme (such as a master’s programme or equivalent); or have completed such programme in the year preceding the application;
