OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

Within BOS, SHW, in line with the scope of WHO 2020 Output 434H: Safe and secure environment with efficient infrastructure maintenance, cost-effective support services and responsive supply chain including duty of care•, develops and implements health policies to protect and promote staff health and advises management on measures to ensure a safe and healthy work environment at all levels of WHO as well as IARC, ICC, and UNAIDS. SHW provides preventive medical and psychosocial care, first aid and emergency care for staff and acts as medical adviser on staff insurance and disability matters. SHW also provides medical and psychosocial support to WHE and deployed personnel before, during and after deployment.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

In collaboration with other medical officers and under the supervision of Director SHW, the incumbent will:

1. Proceed with medical examinations related to employment, duty travel, sick leave, disability, compensation allocations, and provide medical recommendations accordingly.

2. Ensure that emergency health care is timely provided to the workforce as needed and that the hygiene and security of the medical service are in line with health standards.

3. Develop and coordinate training sessions on health and wellbeing for WHO Staff including first aid Trainings.

4. Give advice on medical evacuations of field workforce and staff on mission to the field to ensure workforce is medically briefed.

5. Provide individual or collective advice related to preventive medicine, and medical guidance on the preparation of missions (vaccination, malaria prophylaxis, medical kits, and the follow-up of WHO workforce coming back from mission upon request).

6. Collaborate on activities related to health and wellbeing including visiting workstations and corporate catering facilities, checking of ergonomics and safety of workstations, study of nuisance to working conditions..etc.

7. Design trainings, briefings, and materials, and provide medical guidance to promote health education in the workplace and sensitize WHO workforce to dangers.

8. Develop guidances for the workforce in the context of challenging environnement particularly in case of nuclear, chemical and biological events.

9.Provide briefings with advice on medical precautionary behavior patterns adapted to the specific strenuous work environments in order to ensure the WHO workforce to stay healthy and to avoid infections.

10. Be on duty 24/7 in turn with other medical officers for emergencies.

11. Perform all other related duties as required for the smooth operation of the service including when necessary, replacing other colleagues to ensure the continuity and smooth operational the Staff Health & Wellbeing services.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential: An advanced level university degree (Masters level or above) in Medicine.


Desirable:

- Certificate or relevant experience in Occupational health.

- Certificate or relevant experience in Project Management.

Experience

Essential:

- A minimum of seven years of clinical experience in general or internal medicine in private practice or in a hospital or institutional settings.

- Must not have interrupted medical practice for more than one year.

-Demonstrated international experience within the medical field.

- Experience in occupational health.


Desirable:

-Experience working with International Organizations policies and practices is an advantage.

- Experience in travel medicine is an asset.

- Experience in first aid and emergency medicine is an asset.

- Strong functional knowledge and skills as a medical practionner and occupational health physician.

- Strong skills in the area of project management.

- Demonstrated ability to work in teams and effectively interact with medical personnel and with staff of all organizations involved.

REMUNERATION

WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 75,602 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 4473 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
