Duties and Responsibilities

The objective of this individual contract is to provide research work under the project entitled ‘Climate Resilience for Inclusive Sustainable Development through Regional Cooperation’.

Tasks to be performed:

• Researches, compiles, analyzes, summarizes, and presents information/data on water and related topics such as use of climate change and mapping;
• Conducting vulnerability assessment to climate change for water and agriculture sectors in different Arab countries using GIS;
• Reviews national strategies related to climate change;
• Collects and classifies datasets related to climate change projects;
• Inputs and updates data sets in Excel and generates graphs using Pivot charts;
• Generates tables and figures and PPT presentations;
• Supports the preparation and conduct of meetings, logistically and substantively;
• Takes meeting notes;
• Maintains an up-to-date work unit files on climate change (both electronic and paper);
• Performs other related tasks and duties as assigned;
• Provides additional support to the Cluster and Project Leads as needed

Qualifications/special skills

A Bachelor’s degree in the areas of environment, engineering, water resources management or related area is required.

All candidates must submit a copy of the required educational degree. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.
A minimum of two-years of experience working in the environment field and with managing environment-related datasets is required.

Languages

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA.

For this position, fluency in English and Arabic is required.

Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.
